hello all. My name is Jim and I, after a
lifetime of wanting too, finally got my first rc airplane. I bought the elite apprentice package and have flown it once so far. Not too bad except for a few hard landings and one run into a tree. No damage. Haha. I am very excited to finally get into this hobby that I have always wanted to do. As for me I am retired us navy chief currently work on T-6 Texan II aircraft in Milton Florida. Married and live in Navarre Florida. Saying thank you in advance for all the advice I'm sure I will receive and very nice to be here!

Hey, welcome to the Forum Jim, a lot of us totally relate to where you are in the hobby. I too, always wanted to and bit the bullet over three years ago. Among our many planes, we have an Apprentice that my wife flies. You'll find that they love to glide forever. When she does her turn to final, she chops the throttle and lets it glide in, using throttle to control the decent rate if needed. Just before touch down, bump the elevator back ( a quick touch then back to neutral) to raise the nose slightly and she'll settle on her mains. Once down, hold the nose down with elevator to maintain steering. If you really panic, line it up with the runway, chop throttle and hold the panic button, it'll pretty well land itself.

Have fun, this is just the beginning!! Once you've drank from the Koolaid of R/C flying, your hooked for life, right guys??

Welcome Jim. I hope you have an understanding wife and a good hobby budget. You need both in this hobby. I can't get a better high than flying my planes. Great to have another flying junkie aboard.

Took the apprentice on our second flight today. Can say enough about the airplane, very forgiving with a new pilot like myself, now my truck that I flew her into not so much. Ripped the wing off just inboard of the Stbd aileron as she got the tailgate and spun under the under carriage. No panic switch on earth would have helped me there. Lol Hopefully the gorilla glue holds her all together. Lol

There you go Jim. You're getting the best of both of the world's that come with the hobby. Sorry about your mishap. It looks bad at first but you pick up the pieces and put them back together and sometimes you have a better plane. Good luck with the repair.

Yep, Gorilla Glue has saved many a plane. I noticed that if you dampen one side with water witha spray bottle, the glue will set better, then I read the instructions, duh.

Which of course, you can. I don't, however, have as good a result with Foam-Tac. Case in point, I glued the L/G back on Old Crow with Foam-Tac, and it came off on the next landing. Gorilla glued it the next time and so far so good. Each to their own, use whatever works for you.
I use Foam-Tac for holding grub screws and c clamps in place, works great !!

Flew again today, first flight after wing repair. Flew great now to just clean up the repair area it bubbled out a bit but shouldn't be hard to fix. Did lose nose wheel steering due to a Clevis connector came apart from the servo in the fuselage. Repaired with some safety wire and works fine. I work the graveyard shift and planing on flying in a few hours when I get home. Loving it!
