PBY5 twin with one reversed motor.

  • PBY5 twin with one reversed motor.

    ...question is, should I leave it that way and get a reverse pitch prop for it? It seems that it would help with torque, but I'm a noob. Dynam engines on it.

    Just switch two, any two of the motor wires.

      I've seen a couple of those fly and the engines aren't what one would call "torquey". They are also so close together that torque is not a problem. However, if you are worried about it, sure, reverse one and get the counter-rotating props. It'll be one less thing for you to be concerned about although it's really not a concern. No Dynam twins have counter-rotating props. They all fly fine.

        I think he's saying that it came with one reversed. On my "Black Cat" I used different motors and props to make it counter rotating, I changed the motors to get a larger shaft. I have three of the PBYs and the Dynam C-47 and have ran them both ways and haven't seen much difference.

          I have a 'twinstar ....I have a standard prop on the right motor and a pusher prop on the left motor which is revered to clockwise rotation. NO problem at all

            I see. Hopefully, it came with counter-rotating props. Problem solved - no problem at all. Just go fly it.

              Hello AmphibFlyer and welcome to the Squawk,
              The Dynam PBY does not come with counter rotating props so if going with the stock prop setup you need to reverse two of the motor/esc leads on the reverse turning motor as recommended on post #2 by TiredIron. Since you self proclaimed yourself as a noob, you probably ought to do the stock setup first versus going counter. The reason for this recommendation is that you'll need to acquire the vendors complimentary normal rotating prop(tractor) to the counter rotating prop(pusher) you acquire because Dynam doesn't make counter rotating props and it is not prudent practice to mix a vendor props on twin applications. Also, when you start messing with alternative props you really need to know what you are doing with the power system which would mean getting a good power meter and having an understanding of what prop diameter/pitch/blade count does to the power loading(amperage) to the ESC and motor. My advice is to just go have some fun with your new toy in stock configuration and get some more experience and have some fun before you jump to the next level of doing power mods.

                Wow, thanks for the great info! Decided that torque wasn't really an issue after mathing it, I think it saved about .027 of an ounce, and went to switch wires. I'm now buying two new ESC's after snapping off one of the posts. Live and learn... Did invent some new cuss words though!
