  • Vandals strike

Sometime late last Saturday night, vandals broke down a cable across the gate to our flying field and drove a car or pick up truck up and down the runway, spinning tires and doing doughnuts. The damage can be repaired, but will cost about $500.00 for seed and top soil, not to mention the hours of labor.

Our field is leased from the county parks and recreation dept. Their police took a destruction of property report.

I guess we are actually lucky, this is the first damage we have had in over 5 years. There are a few houses near our field and we are on good terms with our neighbors, many even stop by often to watch us fly, however having a field in a rural setting means not much of a chance of a witness when this crap happens.https://vimeo.com/179699238

We all know what we're thinking Little A**HOLES!!!
Ours is on BLM land that we lease, doesn't stop anyone from doing the same thing, and they do, the washroom gets shot up, idiots peeling around on the runway throwing stones all over it. Nothing unusual to go out there in the AM and have to kick the drunk off the runway, where he likes to park and pass out.

We finally gave up on the field in Cowley as the jerks would be out there right after the guys spent the time leveling it out, and it was a couple of football fields long.
Hope they catch the little buggers, if they're brainless enough to try it again. Maybe a security camera at the gate...

Guys game cameras are pretty cheap and take infrared night pictures they run for weeks on a set of batteries. They would make it fairly easy to catch them.

Claymores are perfect in these situations.

Lol very effective on vandals but could be hard on the flying field. On the other hand they might add a touch of realism for those warbird flights.

A little good news. The head grounds keeper at a near by county owned golf course heard about the incident and has volunteered to come over and repair and even improve our runway for us. Since we lease our field from the county, they are going to let him use their equipment as well as surplus seed to effect the repairs.

Man you gotta like that, goes to show you there are still some pretty awesome people out there. Better give him a free membership and teach him to fly, you might make an R/C pilot out of him!!
