  • Your favorite plane

Here is another little fun question for everyone. What is you favorite plane and why? What do you like so much about it? Also, if there was one plane that you could have, but don't have what would it be?

    Martin.

    Hey Martin, great question.
My all time favorite plane is my P-51D Big Beautiful Doll. She was the first plane I bought way back when and she sat until I learned to fly!
When I finally got up to that level, I took her out to the field and up she went, pretty as you please. Even when the wheel went one way and the plane another, I brought her in on one main and settled her down with no damage, scraped a bit of paint off the bottom of the strut. Last year, an aileron servo packed it in somewhere in mid flight, landed no trouble. The last flight of last season, I'd swapped out all the servos with metal geared servos and ball link connectors. Didn't set it up right and the controls were all over the place, don't ask me how!! Trimmed her up as best I could, brought her around and dropped the gear and flaps, suddenly, gentle as a kitten, great landing! Tell me that this plane was just mean to be for me.
As for which plane I'd like to add to the stable. The Flightline P 38, but with only one income now, I've got to cut back on my plane spending so it'll be quite a while before that happens. At first I wasn't sure, but once you've seen one in person and watched it fly, yep, she's a winner!!
Just got the Flightline Bearcat, actually got it for my birthday, way back in August! From the sounds of it, she will be in high regard as well.

I do love the color scheme of the "Big Beautiful doll". I have seen a full size in the UK done in these colors. It is a stunning scheme and one of my favorites too .

My B-17s, they fly great and always draw a crowd. The planes I would like to have but don't haven't been made yet (B-24, B-29 in 2000mm).

My favorite? For the past few years it's been the Freewing A-6 Intruder. I liked it even more after I got the bomb set for it. Since October 2014, it goes to the field almost every single time I go out, and gets at least 2 flights in.

However, the new Freewing Mig-21 is quickly eclipsing it as my favorite! Wow, what a plane! Still working on paint details, but should be done this weekend.

I'm gonna be brave here and say based upon the avatars of the respondents so far, Martin's first question of what is your favorite is somewhat rhetorical.
So now that you know what my favorite bird is, here are the reasons.
o It is a prop driven Nam era airframe
            o It is a twin
            o It IS a warbird
o It is designed for unimproved airstrip operation with STOL capability
            o and so on.............
Even though I have a balsa/ply version of the Bronco, I would have a foamie with out hesitation because I have become more and more enamored with this build material because foam does bounce better than balsa. I have said this on other threads in the Squawk as well as on other forums that in light of the phenomenal support to the FL P-38, here is another twin warbird that actually has better ground(most important trait) and flight handling characteristics( I own both so I can make these claims) and is just begging to be done. Let's recognize another Nam era prop bird besides the Skyraider and quit remaking over and over the same old half dozen WW2 stuff. Over on the other forum they were saying FMS was coming out with a 1500mm OV-10 but the thread was closed because of possible legal/design issues. That was a huge let down so maybe FLRC can possibly pickup the slack if in fact FMS is gonna drop the ball again. That's my 'why , what and could have'...................thanks for asking Martin.
            PS.....Pat, A6 is my 2nd(or 1st EDF) :)
            Best regards,
            Warbird Charlie

My favorite that I have is actually two planes a Flyzone Corsair and a Parkzone P47. They both just seem to do what I want them to without me having to think or work at it. The one plane that would be my dream foamie would be a 50 inch Grumman Ag Cat biplane. My love of airplanes was started by watching them work while I was a small child the sound of that radial is still my favorite sound. Add a sound and smoke system it would be beautiful.

I would go with my Big Stik 60. A very nice flyer. Also I can't leave out any of my Sigs. I don't have a Sig plane I don't like. I don't have this yet but will be my next plane.

My favorite plane is a toss up between the Freewing 80mm F-86 and the Freewing Stinger 90. I'm basing this off of purely flight characteristics. They are both very predictable, track smoothly through the air, can do their fair share of aerobatics (especially the Stinger), are rather durable, and land so unbelievably easy it's scary. In RC, it's fun to own a little mixture of everything because it provides a unique experience. One side of the spectrum is such as aircraft that just provide a lot of ease to fly, fun, ones you can throw around in the air with less worry, lands like a butterfly, etc., and on the opposite side of the spectrum are more challenging aircraft to see in the air due to orientation issues of the airframe, more complicated to landing, more complex mixing, much faster speeds, vertical takeoffs and landings, etc. The F-86 and Stinger 90 are more in the first category, as they are the "go-to" planes that a person can depend on in various environments and conditions and expect a relatively similar flight experience time after time without much worry. It's nice to always have those types of planes in the hangar.

If I were to base my favorite plane off of looks alone, I'd say it's a toss up between the Freewing F14 80mm and F-15 90mm. I'm biased though because those are at the top of my list of favorites since I was a kid.

Im still waiting for my scaled out F-18 (90mm) and F22 (90mm) and then I'll reconsider, LOL :p;).

Man! That's like asking, "Which one of your kids is your favorite?" (Fortunately I only have one son..) I have 6 planes so far, and my Carbon Z Cub tops the list. I favor it because it's the best of both worlds. Slow & scale & beautiful, or all out fun machine.(still trying to learn how to hover..) Second is my Carbon Z T-28 basically because it flies so darn scale & predictable. 3rd is my Hobbyzone Corsair that I got for $50! Replaced the "safe" receiver with a regular one and this plane flies fantastic.

Hmm.. I'm going to have to break this out by category. Favorite edf by far is my 80mm F-86. It is smooth, predictable, and looks wonderfully scale in the air. Favorite prop airplane is a real toss up, but I'd say it's probably my modded Avios Sea Fury. The five blade certainly makes it unique, it tracks smooth, and has great climb power. Favorite aircraft would be my 500 AH-6 Little Bird. Flying that helicopter is so relaxing and fun it's easy to loose track of time to until the remote starts beeping at you.

I asked the question because it is a fun thing to think about one's favorite plane, and also what's next on the list. Personally I have so many favorites. When you decide on one. Another one seems to appear from no where. I've often said "If I live to be a 1000 years old, I would never be able to build all the planes I would like." With that in mind, I do what I can.

Well, if you're asking about our favorite plane of all time, regardless if it's been modeled or not, then I have to go with the F-16XL. One sexy beast! I would love to have one in say 90mm (hint hint wink wink).

For planes that haven't been modeled that I would want to see, my first choice is an F-106. 2nd is tied between the XB-70 and the B-29.

If you would have asked me a week ago my favorites would be my F-86 and P-38.

Now that I've flown my Bearcat it is now my favorite. It's such a sweetheart of a flyer, looks great in the air and lands easily.

I would LOVE for Freewing to make a B-24! I'd buy two of them.

I'm going to base what I call my favorite based on what I "consistently" enjoy flying, and that would be my Dynam WACOs. One of them is nearly always in the car when I go to the field. I go through phases when something new gets more air time and more attention, but the WACO is always there, comfortable and dependable. So this week, I've been flying the new MIG-21 each day, but I'm still bringing the WACO and putting it up as my wind down and relax plane.
