What Jet should I start with?

F-86 is a great scale trainer. I usually always take it to the field, especially if I don't want to chance my other more expensive jets in a crosswind.

Like, TI, I'm a WWII prop warbird fan(atic), and have also been thinking about getting my first jet. I actually have a GWS ME-262 that I'd picked up at a swap meet, but I haven't actually built and flown it yet. I had been looking hard at the Freewing A-10, but from the reviews/comments that I've read, it struggles on grass (on which I fly) and may be really nose-heavy. Any other comments on the Freewing A-10 as an introductory jet, flying on a grass field? I'll definitely go look at the F-86 and Stinger 90 very closely. Of course, I'd love to get a good ME-262, too. Too many models I want... too little funds for them all...

Great input, Gooniac, thanks for adding your $1.20. I forgot about the Dynam Me-262. It isn't as scale as the Freewing Me-262, but the Dynam is cheaper and runs on 4s instead of 6s. It's a quick flyer as well, considering its power system. The only thing to really check before maiden is the coordination of the ESCs, though. Differential thrust does not make for a nice takeoff, ask me how I know.

Yeah it was a lil over 2¢ I know... LOLOL The ME-262 is fun but yes you need to set the throttle range first!! turn on the transmitter then go to full throttle. Plug in the plane and wait for the tones.... then drop the throttle down to off. ESCs will be synced...

Hi TiredIron, like anything else, a high wing plane makes a more stable platform. If you are looking to get into the EDF world, I suggest starting with an F-15, F/A-18, or the A-6. Of these three ( I have them all) the A-6 is the gentlest of them, with very nice lines, and great scale looks. The F-15 would be my second choice for a first EDF. You could also look at the F-35 or F-22. These are both lifting body airplanes, and have a unique flying style. They will float forever, but they are still highly aerobatic. I fly the A-10 off grass all of the time. I use a few different batteries in mine. I fly it with a 5000mAh sitting directly over the main wing, or I use a 3200 pushed more forward. I do not have any CG issues out of the plane at all. It is a great flying airplane, and I fly mine every weekend!!
