PLANE RESURRECTION. 6 episodes of planes being restored. Also some history. The first is a P-51, the second, a Hawker Hurricane. Haven't seen the others yet. Very interesting!! My wife even watched it with me! Doc

Just finished the first episode with the P-51. Simply extraordinary. I'm hooked. His engineering/mechanical/manufacturing prowess is astounding. And then to pilot (maiden) that flawless machine that he put everything he had into her must have been breathtaking. Excellent series, I'm hooked.

Ugh. When searching for a photo of Janie I just found out that it was destroyed last October. The man who restored and flew her was badly injured but survived but the 80-year-old passenger was sadly killed. My heart is saddened! :(

I'm wondering if there is a moral obligation to, maybe, fly a restored plane like this one time and then place it into a museum for the world to see and enjoy. This just breaks my heart! Doc

No I am of the strong opinion that we have some of these historic artifacts still flying. While yes, most definitely we should always have at least one of each model as a static display in a museum, nothing brings the majestic nature and the history behind these warbirds more to life than seeing them fly, and hearing that unmistakable sound. In our world, we mourn the loss of any model aircraft we pour hours/days/weeks/months into and then helplessly watch them crash before our eyes. Now imagine what he must be going through. Not only the years it took for him to painstakingly build her magnificently and meticulously from a pile of parts, but the loss of his passenger. Unimaginable.

Oh Man, I finished the first part and was curious to see where it is today and research on line, then I read this. I could not think of anything worse to happen to one man.

Cold with freezing rain today so I watched the first 5 episodes. It is a great series for us airplane nuts not only for being able to see theses great planes but to get a little more insight into the nuts and bolts of them add in the history they offer about them you can't beat it. I'm also in hopes they continue this series for sometime there are so many airplanes I'd love to see presented in this manner.
