]Hey Vez!!! welcome to the Squawk family, I'm new to the Rc hobby as well and new to hobby squawk.
Did you get the chance to fly? I'M interested in the Sportsman s+ and the mini apprentice and still on the fence on choosing a new flyer friendly plane.
Let me know how you made out flying.[/QUOTE]

cclark10, yes the sportsman flies well, has a weak landing gear at the nose and bends easily. Wouldn't recommend it to you because the stabilizers drive you nuts once you get the hang of flying it,you can disabe it but once battery is disconnected and re hooked up your back to stabilization. Got 2 planes since last post, highly recommend the Apprentice, and the Timber. Thinking of getting one more, possibly the Flyzone ,island wings dhc-2 Beaver. I started on Sept.29,2016,joined local club here in Trenton,MI,got a realflight 7.5 flight simulator last Dec. have put about 70 hours on it and it has virtually taught me how to fly properly, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO YOU. "Good luck to you" -Over N out! Vez.

For all beginners follow this advice below.
1. Buy a plane with SAFE from maker E-flite!
2. Laminate your Styrofoam planes with 3 or 4 mil laminate!
3. Put a lost Bird Alarm and a low Voltage Alarm on your plane before you fly it.
4. Stay away from Trees, Power Lines and Birds of Prey!
5. Wear Sunglasses when you fly!
6. Make sure you check you Center of Gravity and Control Surfaces are good.
7. Hide the receipts from your R/C parts purchases from your wife!

I'm so new to electrics that all I've done so far is convert the tiny print instruction manual to full 8X10 cardstock pages. Making several readings and studies. The only instruction I seem to find consistently is this. Move the throttle stick as far down (off) as it will go. Then plug in the battery. After that what I've found is a series of steps to set up the model and control system.
I do have a newby question. I have a GAVIN-6C system. How the heck do I supply power to and turn on the RX?

I'm sure you need to bind it and the RX together to start. Some receivers won't allow initialization unless the throttle trim is also as low as it will go. TXs usually start off with the throttle trim in the mid-point for any new model in the memory. This is a throw back to when gas powered planes needed to idle. Electrics don't need to idle. Then there should be something about throttle calibration. That's the next thing you should do after binding. If you have a throttle cut, set it so you can be safe for the rest of the set up.
