Blowing smoke

I was going to outfit one of my electric planes with a smoke system but am worried about it causing damage or completely destroying my plane. The RcSound smoke machine comes with a disclaimer. Has anyone used this system that can give a good recommendation?

Hello Sir, Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try one of these units. My recommendation would be to not use these types of systems in models you're worried about losing. Any time you add sound, smoke, any type of extra performance or enhancing a model from it's factory specifications, we must take to mind that it's not originally designed with that option. From my perspective, often the best way to try new products or options is to use them in a aircraft you aren't too worried about. Test the system and see if it meets your requirements. This is just from my perspective, but any model with modifications potentially adds more complexity to a product, so where possible it's not a bad idea to proceed with caution. That being said, the Mr.RC Smoke System has sold well over the years, and is used successfully and safely by many customers. Thanks for listening. Matt M

HI Cack82, welcome to Hobbysquawk!! I have the smoke system, and through bench testing, I find that it works extremely well, but I have not yet had the opportunity to get it in the air. As for the disclaimer, the same one comes with every LiPo that you put into your plane, but we use them anyway ;)The only issues that I am seeing are the size and weight of the unit plus the 6S battery(I am using two 3S 1000mAh in series), and it gets very hot while running. I am trying to find a cavernous biplane to install it in, that I can add extra cooling scoops that will put air directly on the unit. I want to go with the Prometheus, but it is very cost prohibitive, so for now, I just smoke up my garage from time to time for the fun of it!!

Perhaps a trip to a fireplace store, to find some heat-resistant material to wrap it in may be better than cooling scoops.

HI guys,

This smoke system works very well and have tested them with zero issues at this time. He puts a disclaimer on it do to its hot and in rare circumstance could cause an issue. We have done some major testing and put them into situations to try and cause a fire or damage and at this point no catastrophic failures. This system does work very well but you really want a sunny day for best results and try and not have the outlet to close to the motor move this to the rear or out to the wing tips is best, Hope this helps relax everyone here.

I am not particularly worried about it damaging the plane, or anything of that nature, I just want to make sure that it lasts for a good long while, and doesn't overheat itself!! I know that Brad and the guys at MrRC have done extensive testing on it, so it should be just fine, the cooling scoops are for my own sanity, and the longevity of the system. I do plan to put it on a piece of lite ply rather than directly on the foam of the plane, again, for my sanity, LOL!!!
