Another great idea, to see some of the old history of the United States. Visiting the museum helps keep our historical lesson, for our future children.

Hanging out at your local air museum is a my idea of heaven on earth. Nor. Cal., Castle AFB has a SR-71 and a B-36, Sacramento has 2 major air force bases which have been shuttered but have great local museums with plenty of static airpower on display. I think the only thing better than hanging out at a museum is reading back copies of Smithsonian Air & Space.

I went through Castle AFB flight school for the KC135 in 1978. I'm glad to see they still kept the museum there. I also used to visit the AF museum at Wright Patterson AFB. every time I had altitude chamber refresher course at the base. What a great way to spend a day or two.:Cool:Originally posted by CT View PostHanging out at your local air museum is a my idea of heaven on earth. Nor. Strange to hear all these stories with old AF bases now closed, it truly was a different era.We I recall seeing B-52's and fighters daily on approach to McClellan AFB, which was the nearest and largest maintenance base for the Vietnam campaign. Two of my neighbors worked as civilian electricians and airframe specialist at McClellan and made a great living. Just wondering if those days are truly over with the expected military build up.

That is the Warhawk museum in Nampa Idaho. Super neat place, I've taken my daughter there many times. There is so much information, you could spend a month gathering all that history. That was part of my home schooling curriculum for the history lesson as well. You truly get a feeling there that's unexplained.Originally posted by Alpha.MotionRC View PostNice photos, Starcop. Absolutely, I love History! I could spend all day learning this subject. To me, History is one of the most important lessons. Not only does it repeat, it originate everything we have. A belief was made into a reality. So many more are going to come from history. That's why I think it's like Science Fiction. If that makes any sense at all. :Cool:Originally posted by CT View PostHanging out at your local air museum is a my idea of heaven on earth. Nor. Ahhhh, yes. Aircraft museums. I love aircraft museums and I have spent many many hours at them both here in the US and also in the UK. I've been to Castle AFB Museum, Travis AFB and the Aerospace Museum of California. If any of you get the chance if you visit the UK there are two museums not to miss. First the RAF Museum at Hendon just on the outskirts of London and second, which in my opinion is better is the Shuttleworth Collection. Please see the link below. Anyone who has a passion for old aircraft and flight will revel in this magnificent collection of rare and historic aircraft and they all fly. It really is a heaven on earth if you like old aircraft.

My good friend is an aircraft mechanic, he digs working on jets. Although, you have to get it right the first time.. ;) That could be a pretty stressful situation if something was missed. Working on museum aircraft sounds wonderful! Good for you, I'd enjoy that a lot. MattOriginally posted by Grossman56 View PostI agree, some of the best days I've had were at the Museum of Flight in Seattle or working on the various planes at the museum in Langley BC
