  • Help me decided on my next JET(80mm F-86, Avanti S, or 70mm v2 F-16)

So I currently have Freewings 90mm F-16, F-15, and the 80mm Super Scorpion. I want another 80mm or possibly 70mm jet. I have been looking at the 70mm v2 F-16, 80mm F-86, and the new Avanti S. All of my 6s packs right now are 5000mah, so that's what I would like to stick with. I love my scale jets, but this Avanti S looks like it's a real winner. But I've seen some video of the 70mm v2 F-16 with the 6s setup preform impressively. Any input on helping me blow some money would be great :)

Hands down, the Avanti out of the jets you mentioned, and that's from just about every characteristic. It has better retracts, struts, and wheel size, lighting package, quicker assembly, better ducting, better power system, great aerodynamics, more versatile flying capability, more battery room, and many other positives. The bang for the buck makes it a cut above the rest, as the price really isn't much more than the F-16 (and even the same as the F-86 you mentioned). Minds well save some dough and take advantage of the pre-order price as well.

Welcome to Hobby Squawk Kiefff. I wouldn't try to put a 5000mah pack in the 70mm F-16. I think it would be a bit too heavy. It's a great bird on the Admiral Pro 4000mah packs though.

From all the pics, vids and opinions of those that have flown the Avanti S, it's going to be a lot of fun and a lot of bang for the pre-order price. Both birds are excellent choices, but if pack size is the deciding factor, go with the Avanti. Who knows, at some point maybe you can add them both.

The Avanti looks pretty dang awesome. One other to add to the list is the Mig-21.... It uses the same pack and is an amazing bird as well!

I have the Avanti on pre-order, so I can not cast judgement on it until I have actually flown it. I can tell you, the 70mm V2 F-16 is awesome. I have the inrunner motor in it, and I fly it on a pair of 3700 3S batts. Great flying, great performing plane!! I have not had the pleasure of the F-86 80mm, but from testimonials, the plane is one sweet flyer. My favorite EDF I have at the moment is the DH-112 Venom. SUPER flying plane!! I highly recommend it. Good luck with your decision, and with Freewing jets, there really isn't a bad choice!! Happy Landings!!

If you want the plane today then the F-86 or the A-6 is not a bad choice at all. But if you do not mind the wait get the Avanti it is a stinger 90 just smaller and their is nothing bad on that jet for sure. My recommendation do the pre order Avanti its will jet out of stock quick!

I will second the venom. That is by far one of the best performing 90mm planes I have seen!! All of this with the older 1450kv set up... great flying plane for sure! If I had room I would get one

I would say the 80mm F-86. It is not the fastest of the bunch, but it is so smooth in the air. Out of all of my airplanes, it is still my favorite after 3 years of continuous abuse. It really is hard to beat on just how good and scale it looks in the air, and how enjoyable it is to fly.

...And it's probably one of the best sounding EDF jets out there :).

Yup... A hot EDF, 100a ESC, and a set of F-5 mains and you've got one hell of a fun plane!

For sure! And yes you can definitely upgrade if you want to squeeze some more performance out it, but the gear upgrade isn't really necessary unless you are flying off grass. And stock, the power seems almost perfectly in scale with the real thing. Not underpowered, but certainly not overpowered either. Slow, smooth acrobatics look exactly like the real plane, and energy management for those aerobatics is wonderfully satisfying.

Absolutely man. That jet is one of my all time favorites.

I hadn't thought about upgrading the gear to the F-5 struts... good idea!! Would work out perfectly! The F-104 is by far the best sounding plane though. I have never heard a stock plane sound this clean! It isn't the easiest to fly though.

The F5 gear fit amazing, and just need to carve out a little foam for the trailing links to clear. No problemo with a few minutes time.

totally worth the effort too. the stock ones don't give enough. the F-5 gear is perfect for that...

I would go with the Sabre, it is just a beautiful jet in the air and on the ground. I have both an F-5 and an F-86 as my first EDFs. Got the F-5 first then decided the F-86 might be the better first jet option. Maiden flight was two weeks ago and required two clicks of up trim, that was it. I have since made a few modifications to make it "mine". Dirtied up the finish, after all the only time a plane is that clean is the day it rolls out of the factory or it happens to be a Thunderbird or Blue Angel. Added some carboning around the gun ports, a chequered tail, and some flair to the drop tanks. I realize these are not true to the Jolley Roger, but they are on similar Sabres and I like the look. I have a spare set of drop tanks that I am gong to modify to fit a Mobius camera inside, the other one will be weighted for balance of course. Too much time on my hands.

How did you create the tail checkerboarding? Looks great!

Thank you. I was going to mask off and paint it but the base decal is to fragile. Instead I used black monokote trim sheet. It is nice and thin, self adhesive, and very easy to use. Divide the height into equal parts and use that dimension for the squares. The yellow base decal was not quite straight at the very bottom so those black squares are slightly larger to fill the gap, though you cannot tell.
                                        Good luck.
