Okay, so I did a little work on my lunch break(gotta love working at home) and I went waaaaaaay back to my Estes Model Rocket days to mark the tube for the saucer ribs!! Got the circumference in millimeters, divided that by 9(for 8 ribs) and made a marking strip. Taped that to the tube, and using the door stop on the door frame, made the lines where the rib centers will be!!

Aye Captain Kirk. I heat ya man. You still live close enough that it would be a privilege to be a witness for you and to also meet a member of the motion staff. Just give me a little notice and ill come down. Maybe to even fly one weekend.

All right, here is some REAL progress!! Hope you like it, and I am open to advice. From this point, I will add structural bracing, and sheet the ends and the bottom. That will be the end of this portion of the build until I get the main fuse and the boom done.

So, as you can see, the rib structure is complete, I have the datum lines to create the spacers/strengtheners. The next steps are crucial for the proper alignment of the ribs so the sheeting will lay down correctly. It is coming right along, and I am very happy with the state of the project.

I am sure they told that to Nickoli Tesla, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and the Wright Brothers as well, but like I said, SOMEBODY'S GOTTA DO IT!!!LOL:Silly:;)

Okay, so here is tonight's document dump (Wikileaks and the Russians had no hand in this). The saucer is really taking shape now. It took 5 hours to get 16 pieces drawn, templated, cut, trimmed, and assembled, but hell, this is outer space, so time really has no meaning...Right? Enjoy!!!

Now if that ain't cool, you will need to find another thread to follow!! This thing is so far, the absolute coolest thing I have ever built. Next steps are to make the pieces of the rim for the bottom, and then cap the rim of the saucer. I will try to get that far tomorrow night. The cap for the rim is going to be really fun, as it has to stick up 3/16" on the top and the bottom, so that the sheeting can butt to it. I do not have to sheet all the way up the center hub, as there will be shaped blocks there. After that, sheet the bottom, and move on to the main fuse!!

I ran into a minor snag last night. Because the rim of the saucer is angled, the pieces that will comprise the rim will need to be curved. I am not smart enough to figure the math on that one, so it is going to have to be traced. I need another set of hands for this, and my other pair was out of town last night. I did get the bottom saucer edge stiffeners done though, and I think that once I get the rim on, I am going to leave it be, and start on the main fuse and boom for the saucer. It will be easier to decide on the connection without the sheeting on the bottom, I will just have to be more careful with it.
