  • FMS 2000mm De Havilland Tow Hook

Beautiful plane - just cant get the tow hook to respond to my transmitter - have the "gear" channel plugged in correctly - should I try to hook up the wires directly instead of going through the installed board? - everything else works perfectly

After looking closer, the original post here was way off what you were looking for. So I removed it.

I finally found what you are talking about. Only the retract system for the tow hook isn't working. Try this, pull the retract unit out and try to run it outside the plane, for some reason sometimes if the retracts are in too tight it will bind up the unit inside and it won't work. Then just tighten it to the plane only to the point that it will run for you and leave it there. I've had to do that with my old hellcat a time or two with it's retracts

I didn't know what this plane was but now I see it's the big Beaver. Yank the plug from the board and put a servo tester on it and try to operate it that way. If it doesn't work, you've got your answer - bad servo. If it works, you need to check a few things. Is the "gear" channel on your TX active or INH? Is the switch you want to use assigned to the gear channel? Is it plugged into the proper port on the board? It could be the board, in which case you'll need to hook the plug directly to the TX gear port.
This is not actually a "retract". It's just a simple servo actuating a release mechanism for the tow hook.

This is what they use. It's a retract unit

That surprises me. Interesting use of the retract base. I had the CZ Cub and its tow hook was actuated by a servo. Nevertheless, a servo tester would still be useful in the diagnosis of a retract.

Much agreed, and I was actually expecting a servo as well til I looked into it. I guess they were thinking about load bearing. We all know how FMS loves to pack in the weight on their aircraft.
