  • Down in the corn!

Last night my SU-29 went down in the corn field behind my house!!
Spent about an hour last night before it got dark looking for it.
It doesn't say much for me for taking the risk, I knew the consequences.
Was flying inverted and was not at least 2 mistakes high.
The good thing is that IF I can find it, the corn may have cushioned the impact.
    I feel like an idiot.
Hopefully this will be the extent of my drama for a while.

    Re: Down in the corn!

    Greetings Randol,

    A most unfortunate circumstance.
Must be a pretty good sized corn field.

I don't know the extent of your flying friends but, if you know someone with an FPV set up they might be able to assist you in locating your plane from above. I have used this technique to locate and recover rockets that have drifted beyond line-of-sight tracking ability during their return but still had a general idea of the area of search interest.

Best of luck in your recovery efforts and hopefully there will be little to no damage.

Clear Skies (something we lack at the moment)

It is a large field, going back out this morning with a more organized search pattern

The corn gives up her dead!
Found it, no real damage, battery is toast.
I don't think I'll ever fly over corn again, at least on without some type of locator, lesson learned!.
It took me 4.5 to 5 hours to find it. One heck of a walk. It would be fine if I never saw corn again.

            Greetings Randol,

            BRAVO!! Now that's dedication!!!

I'm pleased to hear that it will fly again.

I would recommend that if you elect to fly over food in the future you at least pick something you can eat during the search process!

              Thanks Rocketeer
It's off this morning to Fly my E-Flite Pulse 25 and the SU-29 at a location with no corn in sight.

                Re: Down in the corn!

Funny that corn comes into this. One of our club's senior members (Floyd) had his precious Cub go down in corn a couple weeks ago. He had a good line, went for it, & spent over an hour searching with no joy, until darkness & the heat ran him off. He's back out there early next morning, lookin' for his baby....again the heat & humidity sent him home empty handed. This was middle of the week so no one was out to help him. He cooled off at home awhile, & went out again. Nothing.

Next day a couple guys were at the field & went with him to search some more. And found it.
Funny part was, all the footprints they found on the ground under it - lying on top of the corn plants. It wasn't really that far in, & every time Floyd had walked in & out of the field he'd passed right under it.

He got it down, but he hasn't lived it down yet. And knowing the guys in our club, he won't for a looong time. At our cookout this coming weekend I'm gonna ask him if he'd go pick us some corn to roast.
