  • Roc Hobby Waco is Roc Solid!!

    Greetings Gang,

I finally had the opportunity this weekend to get out and maiden two or three planes I've had on hold for a bit; the Roc Hobby Waco, the Flyzone Corsair, and the Zeta Dolphin 55mm EDF Jet.

Here, I just want to say that being my first foray into biplanes, the Roc Hobby Waco is an amazing airplane!!
I flew it most of Friday and Saturday off of our asphalt runway with absolutely no issues what so ever.
The initial flights were on an Admiral 1600mAh 3cell pack and then on to 1800 mAh 3cell packs.

Both packs provided 5 to 6 mins. flight times easy at half to three-quarter cruise speed with plenty left for setup approach and landing.
This baby simply glides in and touches down onto the runway as elegantly as it looks in the air. Lot's of comments at the field on the beautiful slow speed passes. Ha, one guy even volunteered to climb the wind-sock mast and pretend he was King Kong and have the bipe to fly-by's!!!

Bottom line, the Waco is really well engineered, really well manufactured for solid assembly and really awesome to fly!!

      Greetings Guys,

      Thanks for the input!!

I've said it before and I don't mind saying it again, One of the aspects that I simply adore about our hobby, is the community mindedness. It's about folks being willing to share... both the good and the bad. That's how we learn and that's how we grow and that's how we become not only better pilots, but better people as well.

      You are all awesome!!!

Re: Roc Hobby Waco is Roc Solid!!

Had a good session with my Waco this morning shooting touch and go's.
Had a prop strike and broke the prop and the motor board.
I have a spare prop, but the motor boards are out of stock, of course.
So unless I can bodge it back together, she'll be hangared for a while.
Nornally I'll keep a few spares around, but I have never broken a motor mount before, so I didn't have a spare.
        Back to work tomorrow.

Is the WACO Motor board common to any other FMS planes?
Already checked the other FMS Bi-Planes here and none are common.

                I use the 2200 if it's a little breezy.
The Waco lives. The motorboard was not broken, just a little loose in the foam. That and the prop was the only damage.

                  Greetings Guy's,

I had an opportunity to fly the Waco on a 2200mAh 3-cell.
Wow! It's like a bought another plane!!

Going back to the 1600 and 1800 mAh batteries was a bit anti-climactic from that point.
Time to go shopping for more 2200 mAh Admirals!!!

Yeah, trying to be thirfty (who am I kidding) I'm using a 2200 from the Pandora battery stock I have for the WACO and mand there is a lot of power there

                          Greetings G56,

Using the 2200mAh 3-cell with throttle control really allows for extended flight time which is awesome for just watching the waco fly!!

I had to put a battery alarm in mine because I would get so engrossed in flying this great plane I'd totally loose track of flight time.

The nice thing is that while I might take 5-6 planes to the field that all require 2200 mAh 3-cells once I've used them up I can still fly the Waco on the remaining 1600 and 1800 mAh 3-cells I have.

                          Pretty sweet......

                          Enjoy the Waco ride!
