  • nitro rc planes, my first ones

Decided to go ahead and bought three, one is brushless and under powered, does not fly. The other two, are nitros, .09 and a .25.

One of the guys at the field flew the bigger one on very strong winds, and the plane did fine, only thing is to dial down the ailerons. He said they are way too aggressive, but the rest is fine, plenty of power balanced plane.

The yelllow and blue little one w the .09 was not that lucky. Did not have enough power to lift the plane. He helped me out to get the most out of the engine, but no joy. Possibly a better prop or upgrade to a .15 or .19.

I did not fly them. But three planes for 200 w the field box, electric pump, glow igniter, two freq radios and one bind radio w 3 rxs as spares.

What engine would fit fine and move the little one good on the sky?

The problem I am having with the small yellow one is it does not hold a tune when vertical.

Took it to the field and could not make it fly, as it did not pass the 90 degree wot test. Took it home, recheck the fuel tank, swap lines, realigned the tank with return hump facing up and sure I had the correct line setup, not backwards.

Tested everything again, it has plenty of power flat and at 45 degrees, but once the prop is pointing to the sky it shuts down again and again.

    Any suggestions?

You need to adjust your airbleed screw on the carb. Google a manual for your engine if you dont have it, it'll tell you how to adjust that screw. the book on my O.S. 40LA says to close the bleed screw if it dies when pointed vertical

I tried that but still had the same issue.

Do thank you for the reply. At the field some said possibly the fuel tank is not placed correctly or the pressure line not set right. Its as if in the top end it does not clean up, low and mid range is fine, its eot when it gives problems. Have changed plugs, cleaned the carb, all the in this stupid little engine. I hate getting rid of it, it idles so nice, but its just paper weight if cant fly it.

The big plane glides, the guy who flew it within seconds doing rolls, letting it stay in one spot in the air... and that was w no trimming at all. Well balanced all around. The only one thing is I cant remove the wing so it takes up space.

I am checking on Ebay to see if I can score a .15 little mill for a few bucks.

are you sure you dont have a pin hole in your fuel lines? and does your clunk(fuel filter) reach the very back of the fuel tank? also that screw next to the main mixture screw looks to be bottomed out. what make and model engine is it?

Sometimes there's not enough pressure and fuel draw in a nose up attitude for the fuel to overcome gravity. If you use extra fuel line and make a loop it will it will provide enough fuel in the line during nose high maneuvers.

                Its a Enya .09

Its the top end, for what I bought it for I will go and port the sleeve for better flow. Will try the extra fuel line.

The weight inside the tank reaches almost the end of the bottom, but it is not touching and is the filter type. Just in case, I dremmeled the channel of the filter for better flow. The lines were swapped.

It has power and pulls nice, screams clean as long as the plane is not pointing to the sky. The blue brushless I got burned on that one, plane is too heavy. I may use the electronics for some silly project or let it go on CL on a trade of for gas money.

When you point the plane up it is leaning out try opening (richening) up the high speed needle to see if that will help. This procedure has worked for me on my glow engines.

Worked on the fuel tank, routing, fuel lines, gave up with that engine. It later did not want to tune and would stop suddenly.

I acquired a box with several engines of all sizes, may slap a .15 and go from there. Right now it is stored as a future project. The airplane is in one piece, nothing broken, basically mint, the same goes with the electric one. With the box of engines, also got a few brushless motors and ESCs of all kinds, and one of them holds up to 4S, so thats for a future project.
