  • need help with flying in high elevation

thanks in advance! I have a FMS Extra 300 that I fly at 7,500 ft above sea level. The Extra lacks power to where it's not performing like a airbatioc plane. I'm thinking a new prop and maybe jump to a 5 cell with a larger esc. do you guys know of any tricks that can help with this?

Hey, I don't know the plane at all, but I do know that at higher altitudes spinning the prop faster or having a higher pitch blade angle will help. Taking a bigger bite out of the air or spinning the blade faster will give you more thrust. I hope that helps.

I second the larger prop, and with the thinner air, you shouldn't need a larger ESC since the prop wouldn't be grabbing the air it would at sea level so the load on the motor as well as ESC will also be less. So the advice of getting more bite from the prop and getting the loading back to sea level performance should give you the grunt you're looking for. Just remember when you fly at lower altitude, have that stock prop handy!

I fly at 7000 ft. I like to increase the prop pitch by at least one. However, I fly my Radian up in the mountains (10000 ft.) with the stock prop. It flies amazingly well there. Doc
