  • Bumpy landing did this...

I went for my first maiden flight w the Cessna Skylane, cranked that 4 stroke, 10% fuel. There I was for 7 minutes enjoying 1/5th scale flying for the first time.

Thinking it is a heavy airplane it was going to land and stay on the ground, but the events were totally different. Resulted the landing gear is very springy and the airplane hopped and on the second touchdown the wing snapped.

I think it was a failure in construction, whoever built it did not put any rods, aluminum nor carbon, or strong wood (not balsa).

    Is this repairable?

Looking at photo #2, the main wing support is that thick vertical slab, and the two square spars at the top and bottom appear to be what should support the wing through the center section. It's hard to tell from photo #3, but it does appear that they went into the center section, to support the wing.
Fixing this may involve removing the covering, both to confirm my guess, and to replace the broken spars; uncover both the center section and the first several inches (or all) of that wing panel. If this was an old model, the would could be weak from age - balsa does this. A member of my club built a P-47 from an old kit, and its tail structure 're-kitted' itself in the air, probably from the age of the wood, combined with a lighter weight balsa used in the kit.
