    Freewing Stinger Red 64mm EDF Jet Lack of thrust

    my son purchased your jet and it lack thrust for sustaining flight. We have been flying for about four years but we are puzzled about this issue. Will a 3s 1300 provide the needed power or should I get a 4s? We have the plane for about two months now with only one marginal flight. Please help.

    Usually turns out to be ESC to TX calibration. Different radio rands have different values for 0 and full throttle.

    You need to secure the model and ensure it can't suck in or blow out anything while doing any form of ESC calibration. Its not convenient to remove the fan rotor on an EDF. For prop planes, remove the prop.

    Generally, turn on the TX, stick to full throttle, then power up the RX and ESC. After the first beeps, move the throttle stick to 0. You should get the normal initialization tones, possibly preceded by an extra tone indicating that it has reset the throttle range. Power off the RX and ESC and the TX. Then do a normal turn on sequence. (TX with throttle at 0).

    Double check the manual for your ESC. There are some differences between brands and sometimes from one production run to the next (firmware update) within one brand.
    RimFire ESCs used to force a throttle calibration sequence EVERY time you plugged in the battery.. (not sure about current ones) This is good and bad, they would not turn the prop until the ESC sensed an adequate calibration sequence, but it was slightly annoying.
    FF gliders and rubber power since 1966, CL 1970-1990, RC since 1975.

      Did you perchance buy the 4S version?

        If you have the 3s version, you shouldn't simply just put in a 4s battery. The drivetrain may not take it for long. Either get the 4s fan/motor/ESC and transplant it or buy the 4s plane.
        I have seen the 3s version of this plane and it does fly but it's a bit on the anemic side. As such, it needs to be thrown very firmly and with some UP elevator to get it flying, but once flying, it does fairly well, but you must keep it at or nearly max throttle the whole flight.
