Mig-21 Vs F-86 as First EDF

I have war bird experience and am looking for the one with best stability, least needed runway, rough terrain handling, etc.

I had also been looking for my first EDF for a while and from what I have read in these forums the F-86 was the most recommended before the Hawk T1 came out.
I have flown the Saber in the DCS flight simulator it was simple airplane that was a joy to fly. Just be careful not to turn too quickly and loose too much energy or else it will go into a tail spin stall.

I can't speak for the Mig, but there have been 2 of the F-86's at my field, which is very rough, mowed prairie grass, full of divots and weeds. It's got maybe 250 feet of fairly decent runway on an incline. After that, the runway takes a more severe dip in elevation and marked with old gopher holes. Taking off in the other direction, there is a small 10 foot high high that has to be cleared. It was very difficult for either of the F-86's to get off the ground. On a couple of occasions, they didn't and plowed into the holes at one end and suffered severed damage to the undercarriage. The stock fan/motor is simply not strong enough to get the plane going to lift off effectively. Playing with holding the plane till the fan spooled up and using high rates on the elevator made it possible to actually fly them off our field, but each take off was a real butt clencher. It would be advised that if the plane is used on short, rough runways, that you get a more powerful inrunner fan/motor. Both of those F-86's have since been either sold or shelved. As a first EDF, it would be a poor choice.

F86 landing gear is very weak.

Mig is better for rough grass,but needs more attention in the air.

I would recomend the Avanti or L39

Maybe FOIL will be what I am looking for, a cool edf with good ground handling. Cough

I have both and fly them from our grass field. I had to glue the main gear back in the Sabre after the first take off attempt, but once that was taken care of the plane has been trouble free. If I had to recommend between the Sabre and Fishbed as a "first" EDF I would go with the Sabre. They both fly good, but I think the Sabre is a little slower and seems more stable in flight.

Like other have said the F-86 is not the greatest, but it used to be the best unofficial intermediate EDF because that was the best that was available in the 80mm size before all these new jets.
The FW Sabre is one of the oldest models that Motion RC did with Freewing about 4 years ago that I can tell. So model design and power systems have greatly improved since then. If you look at the models description on MC site you will find at the very top of the product specifications the Age level, Skill level and build time. The F-86 is classified as Advanced but a newer jet like the L-39 is classified as intermediate which by the way its main role was as a trainer jet. Many fighter jet pilots started their training in this jet.

These would be the Top new intermediate EDF's available. And all of these seem do well in grass strips too.
