  • Stinger 64 4S electronics malfunction

Plane is a total loss, 1st crash in a year.  2nd flight on the plane. Plane is all stock, Spectrum 4 ch RX, Parkflyer plastics belly pan, and wing tips. Running level at about 3/4 throttle motor cuts out, dive into the ground from quite a way up. Would not respond to any control inputs on the way down to the bean field.
Post crash, all controls respond, except the left elevator is stuck full up. Fan sounds like it is turning, but something is rubbing.
My parkflyer plastics add ons are destroyed.

I think I'll throw it on the burn pile once I pull the tail feathers, which those and the canopy are the only salvageable parts. I don't want to look at it any more. I can't trust the electronics including the RX.

Perhaps I'll change my mind once I get over being mad.

Sorry to hear about your plane. Just one thought, did you check your transmitter for a range test and/or battery power on the TX? I know it sounds obvious, but it wouldn't be the first plane lost for either of those reasons. (ask me how I know!!)?

Yep, especially with something this fast. I think I'm going to strip out the flight electronics and test them on the bench as a unit with the fan running and a DVM on the BEC and to try to determine the problem. It's almost as though the ESC overheated and shut down.

Matter of fact, I flew a couple more times with the same TX, 2 different airplanes immediately after the bean field demise. No issues with either plane. You know what they say about getting back in the saddle.

Something like that happened to me with my DX six I transmitter . Same thing left aileron was stuck in the up position and the plane came down . There was a recall on that unit so that could be one of the problems . If not I went with the AR 610 receivers Even when I only need it for a four channel plane I don't trust the AR for hundreds anymore

          Nick,
Your issue of a stuck aileron sounds like it was a servo issue. It may have stalled (bound/jammed) causing an over current condition for the BEC.

Within the same production time frame aren't the RF sections (and protocols) the same between these small RX (AR 4XX and 6XX)? I'm under the impression that the difference is mainly marketing and weight as to how many channels are brought out from the decoder section of the RX.

          All the best,
          Konrad

It was the transmitter.... It did the same thing on s different plane, thankfully it was on the ground. Horizon fixed it for free.

                Hello Dewey,
Just FYI, you won't get a response because he was in fact banned from the Squawk due to demeanor that was not remarkable towards others.
