  • F-5E 80mm Swiss Version

I am new to jets and am trying to balance my new Freewing F5E 80mm Swiss Version but it seems very nose heavy. I started off with a Admiral 6S 5000MaH and thought that was part of my nose heavy issue. So I bought some of the Admiral 6S 4000Mah battery since they were lighter weight and it is still very nose heavy even after moving the battery very far back. Is anyone else having the same issue with balancing this or the Camo Version??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

No problem with mine. I did move the battery mount aft 50mm to 70mm. I also have the Rx tied down just in front of the cheater hole. This really allows me to but the battery all the way back in the battery compartment. Do balance on the aft part of the front wing hold down spreader plate.

You moved the wooden tray back? I don't know what you men about the cheater hole, sorry. Not used to moving the battery do far back into the airplane, usually most of my planes are tail heavy and I have to add weight to the nose of them.

There should be a tray (wooden) glued to the nose half of the fuselage with a battery hold down strap. I move this aft over the nose joint.

Cheater hole is the bottom inlet screen (hatch).

Un like prop models most EDF models have issue with being nose heavy. This is because the motor is not in the nose and the fan unit is often aft of the CofG. Add to the fact that EDFs eat power like mad we want to add over sized batteries for some flight time.

I appreciate your help.  When you balance, I assume that you balance it upside down with the wheels down since it is a low wing?  And the COG I measured it from the tail and is at the proper place which puts it at the point it is recommended.  See pic, not real sure what you mean by the wing hold down spreader plate, sorry.

Nope I balanced right side up with the gear retracted at 540 mm from the aft end per the manual.

You should see a plastic spreader plate which the front hold down screws go through. I balance right on the aft end of this plate (bottom of wing).

I balance by moving the plane along the sharp edge of the table until the nose starts to drop. The teetering on the edge means that that is the balance point. No pendulum effect to mess up your reading.

              Konrad,

Thanks for all of your help. I will give that a try. Still trying to learn all of the lingo for this hobby. Have been in for a few years now and realize that I have a lot left to learn, and people like you are kind enough to assist.

I actually squeezed a Genesis 6000 65c into this bad boy. Just pushed it as far aft as I could and she flew fine.....A little longer takeoff roll in the grass was required though.....but it flew fine.
