  • SU-35 Power System to which two 70mm jets

    Hey everyone,

I tore up my SU-35 last year and originally planned to fix it. After review I have decided not to pursue that route. Because of that I now have a setup for two 70mm jets. I was thinking the Yak 130 for sure. The second one I wasn't sure, I noticed that some of the 70mm ARF+ jets have an 80amp setup. Would the Setup from the SU-35 not be enough for say the F-35?

Whenever you do a transplant like what you're proposing, you must look at the specs of the motor/fan/ESC and the weight of the planes. The SU-35, depending on the version, will have different thrust, the latest one having 3048-2150KV outrunners. The SU weighs 2600g but is propelled by 2 of these fans. The new F-35 V3 weighs the same but is propelled by only one fan and it's an inrunner. You also need to consider the type of ground you fly from. If it's thick grass, you'll need as much push as you can get to drive it through the grass to get up enough speed to lift off. Compare the specs and then you must decide if it's worth trying. You may end up having to buy the stuff that's in the stock planes if you discover that the SU power plants won't cut it. Because of the money involved, I'm not going to stick my neck out and say for you to go ahead and do it. Perhaps someone who has actually done it, will be able to tell you.
I've had 2 SU-35's. The first one was an old version and those power systems were weak. I put them into another twin EDF after I crashed it and the new transplant was also disappointing. I now have the new version SU and those motors are much more powerful and I'm hoping to not crash this one.
