  • What edf does the best Cobra?

Who cares! It's one thing if your a real pilot at fighter weapons school or mach' ing around a theater of combat. But an rc plane? IMHO it is the most boring maneuver to watch someone else perform. And when performing it myself, it feels like a total waste of Watts. This is just my opinion. But now I feel better saying so.
So much hype around the cobra. I think people just like saying cobra maneuver. A cobra, the snake, is actually very badass and cool to watch. A cobra, the maneuver looks like an aborted stall. About as fun as watching someone bag groceries. You can add flair, but its still just bagging groceries. I know, it's just my opinion.

It's annoying when someone figures out a new trick and then thinks everyone needs to now do it.. Dude, we discovered glow fuel years ago....

To answer the question in the thread title without commenting on your unsolicited value judgment, the FW SU35 does the best cobra of any stock EDF I've seen.

It also does the best kulbit/chakra, the best high alpha, and generally the best all around post-stall stuff.

kallend A cobra to a post stall maneuver is interesting, if it's repeatable. Though, I foolishly waited to own an Su35 and missed out from what I've seen I completely believe you're right. And in the right hands it's a very interesting plane to watch. The Su35's aerobatic range is impressive. My point is if all that's being done with it is the cobra and high alpha, I think a wide range of fun is being missed. For the participant and the spectators.

          1. I answered the question you posed.

          2. What evidence do you have "that's all that's being done with it"? You have invented a straw man.

Ha! It was a rhetorical question. A little bit humorous a little bit critical, but not at anyone in particular at all. With the SU, I definitely didn't imply that's all that is being done with it. I did say, IF, that's all that is being done...I've witnessed a handful of flights as well as some videos of great things being done with it. Loads of fun being had with it. Airguardian for one flies it in an enjoyable entertaining manner.

I guess my whole point, and taking the risk of ruffling feathers by making it, is to point out that watching someone do the cobra maneuver with an rc plane, while solo in the sky, and not shoot missles or evade being downed by another plane, is a little bit boring to watch. And/or overplayed. It's just my opinion...

To my point, if I went to an airshow and a real plane did the cobra maneuver, i probably wouldn't walk away yawning. But if all the planes flying demo's started just doing the cobra maneuver, or just high alpha and nothing else, or just hovering a prop plane, i probably would skip the following year if it was going to be more of the same. I like to see the energy being used in creative ways. Flowing or radical, it doesn't matter. Complex or simple, it doesn't matter. The cobra, to me, it just doesn't look like much of anything. Unless your in the jet trying to break a lock or obtain a lock, it's the lullaby of aerobatic maneuvers. Again, just my perspective.

It's a weird ranting topic, and heavily opinionated but I do feel a little better for expressing it.
