  • 64mm fan 12 blade vs 5 blade compatibility.

Does anyone know if the 12 blade and 5 blade MRC 64mm fans are the same size? I would like to use the 12 blade rotor in a 5 blade fan. It's the EDF unit from the 64mm Crusader or Thud. A 2627-4500 kV outrunner 3s 30A but with a rotor swap. I'm hoping the 12 blade would be more efficient, m ore powerful, and sound better. I wouldn't mind trying it, the parts are cheap, but if someone knows the answer that would be nice.
Pretty much all the MRC 12 blade fans are designed for 4s batteries and the fans are heavier. I would rather not go that route, I don't have 4s packs smaller than 2200 and I have 6 perfectly good 3s 1800.

I tried to swap the 12 blade fan from my MRC 64mm fan with the 5 blade fan but it doesn't work. The plastic moldings of the fan enclosures are different. The motors have different diameter mounting requirements. I've searched a bit, RC Castle and Windcatcher (XFly fans) but it looks like any 64mm fan with 12 blades is going to draw about 40A, and most of them are 4s or more. The 30A 5 blade 3s fan Motion includes in its smaller toss and boss planes seems to be pretty unique. Weightwise the 5 blade is 77g and the 12 blade is 132g.
I hate the dentist drill whine of the 5 blade fan but I think I would hate adding roughly 5 to 6 ounces of fan, bigger ESC, and a 4s battery even more...
If anyone knows of a 12 blade 64mm fan that pulls 30A let me know!

The Arrows 64mm 6s fan has the smaller footprint. Maybe check their 4s fan?
