  • Question about ESC settings for FreeWing 90mm T-45

    I have a stock T-45 power setup.

Does anyone know what the timing should be set at(low, med hi)? I flew the ship yesterday and the timing was on mid. But it was a maiden launch and I was in the air for only about two mins.
I plan on wringing the bird out on Sunday and I do not want to burn something up.

Also I have one slat actuator that lags the others by a fraction and one speed brake servo that lags the other by a fraction. Is this normal for these FW birds?

Mod could you please move this to the ESC section. Sorry I didn't know there was such a section.

Disregard this post as I put the bird in yesterday. Took off going way too slow (my fault for continuing the takeoff) from a grass runway. Lost it behind some tree tops as it was accelerating.
I do not recommend the T-45 for grass fields. I guess if it's like a putting green maybe, but on our field it's a no-go.

Yeah man it was all sensored-up. At first I was blaming the ESC timing. But after looking at the data, the ESC was running at ambient temperature, the battery was over 25 volts and 7 degrees above ambient, and the RPM was 28,800. The bird was doing its part. I just lost orientation after it went behind the third tree top. So I chalk it up to pilot error. I should have aborted the takeoff.

At our field I am gonna just fly stuff that can handle the grass.

The ship flies fantastic. I honestly think its easier to land than the T-28. But you got to have speed on takeoff.

Just heard they lost a T-45 out of Navy Meridian a couple days after I lost mine. Both crew members made it out safely thank goodness.

Good to hear they made it out OK. Ejection is a violent process. You will be sore at the least afterward.

                  What happened to your T-45?

I launched too slow after a grass takeoff running low timing. Then I got in trouble avoiding trees. Had to use all my E to clear a line a trees at the end of the runway, then got caught behind other trees trying to accelerate. All in all a bad day. Lesson learned. I have ordered an arf plus version with the upgraded 6s HET motor and Gecko 155A esc. Hoping to see some performance increase on takeoff.

On the maiden we had just cut the grass and I was using mid timing. So I have decided to get there early and mow before I fly. The maiden went beautifully. Couldn't ask for a better flying bird. The final was locked in with a rotation about two feet off the deck at about 25% throttle. Landing was simply reducing the throttle to touchdown. Perfect. Actually easier than landing the T-28.

Yeah, that power setup should be a good improvement. :)
