  • F-15 or F-16?

Ok, time to decide on my next EDF. I'm ready to pull the trigger. Already decided on a Freewing plane from MRC.

Now, which do I get, a 90mm F-15 or 90mm F-16? Then, should I stay stock or should I upgrade? Funds are limited. Don't have beaucoup bucks here. Got enough for one big purchase, so I need to make it count.

If I choose the F-15, will I be happy with the stock configuration? Or, will I regret it? Same with the F-16.

    Thoughts all?

    thanks!

Well my opinion is, you just can't beat a stock 90mm F-16, I sold my stock 90mm F-15 after three flights, just to sluggish for me. Some say the F-16 is slow and heavy and all that, it is heavy but not slow, I have two 90mm and they fly just fine, don't throw cheap batteries in them, use a Gensace/Tattu 6s 5000mah 60c and you will be a happy pilot. Once you learn to fly it like an F-16 should be flown, its a blast. You don't need flaps and tailerons and all that, it flies fine all stock, you just have to learn to fly it, landings can be tricky but after a few tries you will get the hang of it. Now I did order another F-15 but it's the high performance pkg so we will see if I like it better. The F-16 is larger than the F-15 too if I remember, F-16 looks way more scale to me also in the air, get the F-16, see I just talked you into it....

yeah Id go with the F16 as well. some say the F15 is easier to land, but to me ,the F16 was. and he's right about the power difference..the F16 stock has more power than the F15 stock.

If going with a completely stock PNP, then I would vote for the F16 as well. The F15 on the FW 8s system is a blast though.

I have had them both. My F-15 just celebrated it's one year anniversary as a part of my fleet, and outside of a main gear and a nose gear door, and one nose gear strut that I have replaced, the airplane is still as it was when I bought it. I can not say the same for the F-16. I had to replace the nose gear several times, and the nose and main doors as well. Anything less than a perfect landing would fold the nose gear. I wound up selling it in much less than stellar condition.
I fly off of grass so stock is not really an option for me. I fly the F-15 on 8S, and it is spectacular, 136 mph in level flight. The F-16 wouldn't handle the 8S without massive mods to the battery bay, so I kept it on the 6S inrunner upgrade. I never was quite happy with the way it flew though. It is beautiful in the air, but flies kinda like a brick with wings. Therefore, if I had to it all over again, I would definitely go with the mighty F-15C Eagle!!

The F-15 is a great flying plane in stock form. It is bigger and floats more. It take a little more to get the plane moving quickly but it can be done. The Stock F-16 is considerably faster but as a result has a higher wing loading. It is trickier to land and isn't quite as forgiving in the air. It is a matter of what you are looking for. I have the F-15 and upgraded the power system so it moves much better than stock. That same upgrade that I used is going into the F-16 when I get it and it will be like a rocket ship! They are different animals but both fly really well especially when you consider that they are foam...

I have both and I do not see that the F-16 is under power in anyway. I used to have to come off grass 0 issues with the power in it. Landing that plane is a bit hair raising but not hard to over come. The F-15 is a supper flyer allot more stable in the air and landings are not bad a bit fast is all. The stock motor flies this fine but is no speed demon in anyway the f-16 has this beat out. I guess it really comes down to looks and what you like to fly Go with the F-16 its very nice once you learn to land this correctly.

I don't have either model. However I do like the F-15. It gives the appearance of doing 500MPH sitting on the ground. I may have to get one, I've been looking at it.

Honestly, I'd pass on both and wait for what's coming...

The F-15 is small, draggy, heavy, and needs 8s to fly well.

The F-16 is GORGEOUS, but also draggy, VERY heavy, and has expensive gear if anything happens. Plus, it's just not a good flier in my experience... No matter how much power you put in it.

I think there are far better options now and coming ahead.

                        Cheers!

The F-15 and F-16 in the videos I posted are both on 6s with modded set ups. You never NEED 8s... It is all in the way you fly them. They both fly great! You just need to fly them like jets and not expect them to be like a prop plane. By that I mean using momentum and gravity. Props get your used to being able to do things that you normally should not be able to. They have near instant thrust which makes it possible to get up and out. With an edf its hard to get that even when you have an excess of power. These planes in stock form are way more than enough....modded just makes them fly different thats all

My experience with both is that I really loved the F-15 in looks and general performance (I fly scale so I am usually okay with stock speeds unless it's a real dog). Found her easy to takeoff, fly and land. The F-16 was far more temperamental to me. Just overall twitchier than the F-15 and there's a learning curve to landing the F-16 (just ask me how I know). I thought the F-16 could use a gyro where I didn't feel that way at all with the F-15. I think they both look terrific and they are small enough that I can fly them at the junior high school parking lot but large enough to feel like you're flying something robust, not a tiny model.

Both overall really nice 90mm jets in looks and quality but they are definitely two different birds from one another. The F-15 flies more like a trainer where the F-16, not so much.

Definitely... The F-15 is much more "Floaty" and forgiving than the flying brick of an F-16.

The F-16 is for sure not a good first 90mm Jet. It requires much more care on landing and will bite you if you use the elevator instead of controlling altitude with the throttle. I would say that they go in this order.... Easiest of the 90mm to fly out of the fighters.... F-15. The next is the T-45 is right in the middle. The F-16 is difficult to fly but not the hardest. That goes to the F-104....

I might even put the T-45 before the F-15, or at least they are tied. Superbly smooth and easy flyers. Never flown the F-104 but with its profile I can imagine not the easiest flyer. The F-18 is easy to fly as well...Very floaty, can easily dead stick the landings. One of my favorites. Haven't flown the F-14 yet but with it's sweeping wing mech and variable flight dynamics that would definitely be an advanced jet.

Ok, I got the F-15. Put it together last evening. That plane looks amazing! That's probably the most beautiful foam model I've ever seen. It looks really scale, except for a couple of things that I know would just be too expensive to build into a foam plane.

One thing....and I know this is picky....but the box said F-15E on it. This is a 'C' model. The 'E' is a 2-seat dual role plane. Thought someone would have caught that :)

Yes that F-15 is one hell of a looker ain't she? For foam it's just incredible...Love the scale outline, appeal and details. Just wait until you fly her. As long as your CG and throws are correct and add in your expo preference and you will be rewarded with awesome flights.

That's great. I set it up just like the manual, per Mike's video on the Motion site. Should be ready to go as soon as we get a good day out here with some sun.

                                        Thanks!
