Anybody else having trouble with the nose gear pin breaking? I just attempted my 3r maiden flight and on all three take off rolls The nose gear pin breaks. Finally got a video of the third fail. After the first maiden and nose gear collapse I tried make a warranty claim and was told to provide a bunch if information. So I provided it all the them and was then told that since I didn't get a video of the event they couldn't help me. I sent a nice email just saying "thank you, I appreciate your help". I got no reply, but within minutes I got an email saying the new pin was ordered. Weird, but they did send me the $4 Pin, of course after I ordered one because I thought I was S.O.L..

Is this thread just about dead? And just why James is this "Official" thread in Military Jets and not in Sport Jets!
Anyway, I really like my Stinger 90, flies just as well as the Avanti, but too bad it's kind of looking and having to connect/disconnent 6 servo wires each time out was a pain, so it really needs to be upgraded with a ribbon cable. I wired each side into a 5 pin latching polarized connection so it goes together and comes apart in seconds, with very little stress put on the servo connectors.

Anyway, I spent the last several months upgrading all of my 90mm EDF's to the 12 blade inrunner, with the exception of the Stinger 90. Mine had the old 12 blade 1650 Kv outrunner in it, yet it still flew very well. I wasn't about to spend $100-$160 upgrading the fan for that one, but earlier this month got a 2nd Hornet that came with the 9 blade inrunner. I also bought the 12 blade for that one, so in essence the 9 blade only cost me $20 if I would have got an ARF and the 12 blade fan separate. For that cost, I was more than happy to upgrade the Stinger. Bottom Line, it was well worth it! Flies great now. It's nice to see MRC upgraded the Stinger with the 9 blade (wonder how they're selling though at the new price), but if you still have the old 1650 Kv outrunner, you may want to upgrade it to the 1900Kv inrunner. Oh yah, and definitely rewire the wing connections and maybe do some cool repaint. I'm flying mine on a RT 6250 and get almost 5 minutes of flight time, not too shabby for an "old" EDF.

Maidened my Stinger 90mm today. VERY stable. I'm using an AR636 receiver mounted sideways on the side of the battery bay near the rear. Even in low rates (60%) I found the roll too aggressive on the first flight. I dropped the linkage for the ailerons one hole at the servo (Thanks RC Informer) and turned my low rates down to 40%) to calm her down. She lands super fine although on my second flight I managed to set her down too close to the weeds near the curb, spun and snapped the front strut connecting pin. Dammit. My bad for sure! But as a bonus, I found that the strut connecting pin is the same one used in the FW T-33, which I have several! Prior to today, the FW T-bird was my fav but now that I've flown the Stinger that may change. In two flights it's definitely grown on me!

I've seenots of reviews and videos on utube and the stinger 90 looks to be the easiest one to fly. Any advise on setup, rates expo and flap settings, would be greatly appreciated. The Stinger 90 and the Avanti are 2 of the easiest EDF's to fly, IMO. I think you will love it. Since you're new to EDF's, just keep in mind that these fly (especially the Stinger) much faster than what you may be used to. But keep in mind this jet flies very well at 50% throttle, so take it easy the first few times out. The Stinger was my first EDF and the first time out I was at 80% or more throttle most of the time and it was very hard for me to even see the orientation (which is one reason I did a complete re-paint to the yellow and black seen above) and I was attempting to land way to too fast, fearing a wing stall. Well it actually slows down nicely for landing at about 25% throttle or less, then 2-3 feet above the ground you can reduce it even further to nothing and let it float it, but keep the nose up and land on the mains. It has plenty of thrust so climbing/taking off and anything you want to do including knife edge it will do.

Regarding setup, I use a RT 6250 all the way back and get about 5 minutes of flight time. My CG is probably about 5 mm behind the 120 mm book location. I use a 3 position switch for rates, with Ailerons at 14 mm deflection low to 25 mm high (book high is 20 mm) and expo of 45% (I use a lot of expo with my EDF's cause my fingers are not very steady and at minimal deflection, with that much expo, it's like it is in low rates but when I need it, full deflection gets me there, but that's just me). With a lot of expo, it seems to fly smoother without quick erratic changes. On Elevator, I'm at 17 mm to 26 mm (again higher than book) with 40% expo. Rudder is 25 mm to 34 mm, also more, but that is so it will knife edge for me better. On flaps, I use less than the book values, 25 mm take-off and 40 mm landing, with up elevator compensation of -3% take-off and -6% landing flaps.

I would also recommend, when you feel comfortable, but should try it on the 1st or 2nd flight, get enough altitude, deploy flaps and slow it down while easing in elevator until it gets nose up and stalls. This will give you a feel on landing just how slow you can go and the speed you will need to land with jet not loosing altitude, or just a bit of altitude, while keeping the nose up for a nice 2 point landing on the mains. It will probably dip a wing to the left, which you can correct with aileron and then let the nose drop and give it some throttle to pull out. If you want to keep it in high alpha, just give it a little throttle and keep correcting the wing dips, either left or right, and it will fly around nicely it that high alpha position.

Enjoy these EDF's and let us know how it goes.

I assume you are directing that question to me. First I removed the decals that would come off easily with tape which were the decals on the underside (decals on the red painted surface did not come off easily so painted over those). Then I put 2 coats of Varathane Spar Urethane water based clear gloss as a "primer". Then spray painted both sides with Rustoleum 2 in 1 white primer, followed by Rustoleum 2 in 1 gloss Golden Sunset. Final paint was with testors black enamel, hand painted. I sent Callie Graphics the designs I wanted for the Stinger logos, Hornet on the tail, 2 different scorpions, etc. and she printed them better than the designs I sent her. Final touch was 3 coats of the Exterior clear Gloss urethane.

Actually did 2 of them (only difference was the underside and top of the elevators), both with afterburners. Definitely one of Motion's best flying sport EDF's along with the Avanti, 5 minutes on a RT 6250. This is a great frame to customize to your liking and IMO really needs it!

Hi Gentlemen, 6 Cell 5000mah batteries are difficult to find in my hometown Durban South Africa. Can I fly the freewing 90mm jet with 6 Cell 4000mah or with 2 x 4 cell 5000mah battery packs in series?
    Regards,
    Shauncat drummer boy.

Got 20 flights in today on 4 EDF's, with 5 on the Stinger 90. I'm now flying it with the RT 6250 35C battery and am getting 5 minutes of aggressive flight time. I think I'm finally getting to the point where I can fly it with a lot of high end maneuvers with 0 pucker factor. It only took about 60 flights to there though. This was my 1st EDF and man, it's come a long way since that first flight. Haven't had to do any "repairs" for quite a while now. 2 point high alpha landings have finally become the norm. I think it flies better than the Avanti and just as easy, but it wasn't always so. Can't believe how bad I was when I first got it! And I love the sound of the 12 blade EDF (and the 12 blade inrunner in my F-16). One of the turbine guys at the field said they both sounded almost like a turbine. On the other hand, the 9 blade stock outrunner in the F-4 sounds like in comparison, way to whiny. But damn, the F-4 does fly nice, so I just put my headphones on and listen to a little Country while I'm flying the F-4!

I checked the balance inverted and it was right on at 110mm and slightly nose heavy at 120mm. and this time with a 8mph head wind it lifted right off. I did use about 200 feet of runway. It flew great.
Thanks for all your help guys.

The most recent EDF Motion has in the Stinger 90 (for at least the last couple years) is the 12 blade 3748-1650 Kv outrunner. If you remove the fan you should see the markings. Assuming that is the same, the motor should be fine in that jet. Good luck.

In addition to that, the repaint and urethane added weight to the back and I have an afterburner installed as well, all adding tail weight. Even so, still needed the lead. It takes off of the grass with take-off flaps in less than 100 feet with the stock outrunner, so I'm surprised you are having a problem. T-CAT is no doubt correct, you must still have it too nose heavy. On asphalt, it takes off in 50 feet.
When I re-balance I will probably need to add tail weight as you did.
