How About an F9F Cougar for 80mm?

Born in 1952, I am a fan of Korean War era jets, especially the Grumman F9F Cougar. It would be wonderful if Freewing would come up with an 80mm Cougar! I know they already have the 80mm F-86, but there is just something about the shape of the Cougar that really grabs me, especially the top and bottom view in the air. There are several large (very expensive) ARF Cougars available, and from all accounts they are all excellent flyers and very well behaved. RBC Kits has a 40" Cougar kit, a perfect size, but by the time you buy retracts, fan unit, and radio gear that one gets pretty expensive too, and it's a lot of work to build such a jet (I know because I built their F4D Skyray). I know Freewing could come up with a nice one for 80mm, with a wingspan in the 36" to 40" range, and I bet it would be an excellent flyer.

Me too! I'd want the grey and yellow scheme though.

I agree. Need to add an 80 or 90mm F9F panther/cougar to the lineup. Love this scheme.

I have a beautiful BVM Cougar that I've been flying for about a year. It's easier to fly than most turbine trainers with no bad tendencies. I'd love to have a smaller one for everyday flying. I really like the 90mm size though

One more thing - put shocks on the landing gear ala the F5 and Avanti S so we can fly it off grass, as some of us don't have access to asphalt strips. The Cougar has decent wing area for a jet (and therefore lighter wing loading/wing cube loading) and I believe an 80mm size would handle grass OK.

                      Hey Patrnflyr

You have a nice looking BVM Cougar. I am looking at the Fei Bao or Sky Master F9F Panther. What is your power plant?

I've always favored the Panther over the Cougar, but I LOVE the 80mm line so I won't be picky.

The 90's just lack performance as of late and while the scale features are great, it really weighs things down and takes the pep out of a lot of the latest 90s IMHO.

Also, for me, the 90mm jets have too short a flight duration. I want at least 4 minutes, preferably 4:30 to 5:00. That can be obtained with 80mm jets that have a bit more wing area to carry the additional battery weight, and the Korean War era jets certainly have that.

It has a KingTech 100 and plenty of power but I'm trying to up the ante to a 120 eventually so it'll get off the runway a little faster.

The Cougar has a ton of "hidden" wing area. It floats much better than my KingCat. I'd call it a jet trainer almost. The Panther looks great but that straight wing, when I've seen it perform, is similar to a T-33 and has a waggle in roll axis while on approach. That was without a gyro so I'm sure that would settle it down some.

Yes, the large fuselage area between the wings lowers the wing loading significantly, and I think that is one of the reasons the Cougar flies so well. I agree, looks-wise, the Panther is similar to a P-80/T-33, and I prefer the looks of the swept wings and stabs on the Cougar - just looks more like a jet to my eyes.
