  • TiredIronGRB's SU-47 Kit Build

Last week I picked up one of these as a kit, the previous owner had put the 10 blade fans and ESCs in and decided to sell it...
I've put all metal gear servos in it and will use Freewing 90mm F-15C Main Landing Gears and a Freewing 80mm F-14 Nose Gear.

I've got the main fuselage together so I thought I would post some pictures of the progress, I decided to use the canards with the elevators and ailerons only. The TV is setup to work with the elevator and ailerons.
I decided to put the wiring that runs thru the intake in heatswrink and run it straight through, I did add a small spar in with the wires to give it support. I also added spars in the wings which really stiffened them up.

I take it that is the LX Berkut? Nice score. That is a very unusual looking plane.

Yes, the kit version...I got it from a guy on RCG for less than what the power system cost.

Got my retracts in today (thanks to the Motion) and fabbed up the mounts and steering setup, looks like they will work great.

I never would have thought your first EDF would be the SU-47 but you are definitely taking it to the next level so good job. Where did you get the plastic gear mounts from? We're they in the kit?

I uses the ones from the Freewing 80mm F-14 and just cut them down to fit.

I look at all the parts so I can see what can be used here and there, that's how I came up with the P-38 strut idea.

That's exactly what I do TI, probably have looked at every part for every plane of every manufacturer that Motion carries for all my mods that I've done.
Sometimes it can drive me a little :wacky from all the  to scale em' up some more. ;):)

Curious as to what attracted ya to this airframe as your first EDF build ?

It reminds me of the movie jet Foxfire, I also love the forward sweep wings.

Looking good. It is just such an unusual jet which lends to a certain level of intrigue.

Just a word of caution regarding the LX thrust vector nozzles. The attaching points "balls" for your pushrods on the nozzles where they pivot, are very weak ! Check them before, and after every flight. especially if you scrape the tail on landing. If you loose one in flight, its game over. If you notice that one of them is getting iffy, you can unscrew the nozzle and rotate it 90 degrees. that way you will have a fresh ball to attach your pushrod to. the nozzles have 4 balls per side, but only 2 of them are used. The "pitch" balls are the ones that are prone to damage since there on the bottom.

What an ugly airplane lol. Great job with it though. It sure is unique and will get a lot of lookiloos for sure.
