FMS 70mm Avanti is AWESOME!!

I know that the Freewing Avanti has gotten some rave reviews thus far! All of the videos that I have seen of it show that as well. I haven't heard a whole lot said about the FMS 70mm version though so I gotta chime in on that one! I got the FMS 70mm A-10 and was seriously impressed with the quality and flight performance! Not to mention that it only took 12 screws to put the plane together! And the wings just plug in with no need to fiddle with connectors of any kind. This plane is no different in that regard! There was a really low parts count and it only took 8 screws to complete! What blew me away even more were the flight characteristics!! Nothing short of amazing! Super low price, short build time and amazing flight performance.... big time surprise on this one!! Here are my flights from the weekend...

I do agree the 70mm FMS is an amazing Jet .. I upgraded it to a XRP 13 bl for better performance & have had well over 50 flts on it .. However for me the Freewing 80mm takes it to the next level in performance & better all round ground handling on Grass with its Trailing links & larger wheels... I found the 80mm much easier to land even to a crawl than the 70mm .. Not saying it's not easy to land the 70mm.. I also found the Oleos suck big time on uneven grass surface especially on rotation or landing if they hit a bump or small pothole the mounts get ripped off very easily.. A set of Trailing links would have helped greatly just like the Freewing's..I had to change the front oleo for a Trailing link because it the mounts consistently got ripped out & since the change no issue at all.. It also helped ground handling.. One thing I couldn't understand with the FMS R&D guys.. Who the heck uses threaded screws for axles ?? That has to be a brain explosion.. It adds Drag to rotation & leaves a thread in the wheel after awhile., What the??

For the price, it ain't bad. A guy at my field has one. We'll have to get together one day and fly both his FMS Avanti and my Freewing Avanti to compare. However, I consider the FMS Futura to be more directly comparable to the Freewing Avanti.

You have to fly them both yourself to compare them properly especially taking off & landing on your gopher hole infested field.. I have both & can tell you I definitely prefer the 80mm hands down all things considered like if size is not an issue with regards to space if of storage or transportation or freight... Adding an extra $50 or $60 for the 80mm is worth it..Just my $.02 worth..

Notice I said that both are great... I just haven't heard enough about the FMS. I will not be flying from grass and the size of this one is perfect for me. it fits in my trunk with the Freewing 80mm F-5 and Freewing 70mm F-16. I have a couple friends that got the 80mm Avanti and will be flying this with theirs as soon as I can.

I love my FMS 70mm. It’s been through hell and I’ve learned a lot about flying EDFs.
