To get that turbine sound you are going to have to upgrade either the fan to a 12 blade unit or a whole new 70mm 12 blade EDF.

Here is just the cheapest fan option by its self. https://www.motionrc.com/collections...edf-ducted-fan

    Or an upgrade unit. https://www.motionrc.com/collections...mplete-set-red

Or a complete new 12 blade EDF unit with motor to keep it simple.

Hi tifi, and welcome to the forums.

I see that there hasn't been much response since your last post, so I thought I would chime in to help answer your last question. I have this very same model as the aircraft is one of my personal favorites right up with the F-16, F-14, and ME-262.
As a twin 70mm, the fans and power system recommended by Evoman are very solid in performance. I have the older versions of the power systems { 3068 2300 kv motors } in my 262 running 100a ESCs and a 10a BEC. I also have another set of these power systems set aside for my Mig-29 and YF-23.
I have done bench tests on my power systems and they do run at 92 to 93 amps constant and 94 to 96 amps peak. I have not used the JP metal fan system before so I can't say too much about them other that what I have seen on Youtube.
They look good, so I would suggest you look around Youtube and other forums and talk with the people who have posted something about those fan units and get as much information as you can from those who have used them.

The down side to going up to the 12 blade high performance inrunner fan systems will be the increase of your battery size. I do not think a 3600 pack will be sufficient for any decent flight time.
I have run test flights on my 262 for 2 minutes at 1/2 throttle on a Admiral 5000 pack and finished the flight with roughly 40% remaining in the battery. I think if I push it, I can get a 2 1/2 to 3 minute flights out of her but then I will start getting to close to that 20% threshold on my batteries.
If you decide to use a 3600 battery, it will probably give you enough flight time to get air bourn, circle the field once maybe twice, put the plane into a landing pattern and set her down on landing with maybe 25% to 30% left on your battery.

You can however try out the 12 blade outrunner fan systems sold at Motionrc.com; https://www.motionrc.com/collections...-w-3048-2150kv

These fan systems are their new version 2 all plastic units and come in the standard rotation format only, but since the Mig-29 has the engine nacelles fairly close to the aircraft's center line; it should not pose any thrust or torque issues.
I have 2 of these set aside for another YF-23 project later on, but I have not yet put them on the bench to test them so I have no idea what to expect from their performance. Outrunner motors generally run less amps then the inrunner motors but produce less power and or less RPMs.

I hope this was helpful for you.

I too have the kit version of one of these still in the box. I am planning on using the new 12-blade fan system that Arcangel posted above as these make my Me-262 really scoot!

Well, I believe I can be of help in terms of upgrading your MIG29. Last year I was having the same issues of upgrading my MIG29 so it would fly as good as my Big Freewing Jets. I have spend a great deal of time and money to come up with this final version. I went through several motors including Freewing 2150KV 3048 motors and the FMS 1850kv 2860 motors. The Freewing Motors only give you about 2min flight time with an Admiral 6S 5000mah battery. The FMS motors give you 3minutes of flight time with 38% battery left. So naturally I went with the FMS motors. I got them from Banggod.com. I am using twin 80A Hobbywing ESCs. I am using mostly FreeWing servos. I had to heavily modify the canopy to fit the battery in the in the fuselage. I upgraded the plastic Landing Gears with HSD landing gears off my deceased HSD Viper90. You also have to cut a hutch in the main fuselage behind the canopy for your electronics. As far as cheater holes to give you the best sound, I used the plastic grills from the 90mm F104 starfighter. These really give it the Jet sound. I hope this will be of some help. I will try to upload the maiden videos of this Mig29 including take off and Landings.

I think you would be better off with a new Freewing EDF. You will save yourself money and a lot of work in the long run. Plus you will have another airplane that performs better out of the box.
Just about all the LX models end up needing everything upgraded which is why many experienced people in the hobby just get the ARF or kit version if they really have to have it. Then they cross their fingers that it flies good enough.

I agree with you Evoman. I have just about every FW jet and only buy the LX models because FW doesn't have those particular ones. Every LX Jet I have has been a KIT version outfitted with all FW electronics. I wish FW would come up with all those jets LX and FLY FLY make and put them out of business.

                            I just got a kit mig 29

i have servos and power system picked out.

I have a few few questions on the building though.
Like Servo wire lengths needed?(should I get long ones and recrimp new ends on)

I can’t find any good videos on installing landing gear and servos for land gear

what is needed to support foam where elevators hang? Is there a metal upgrade for the joint on elevator.

I have large escs and confused on where to mount them to get proper ventilation.

last question is trying to combine channels on a y connection to free up channels (ex. Landing/gyro)

                              Welcome to the forum Mikre27,

When it comes to wiring, I like to custom make my own wires to fit the aircraft. I bought a pin crimper, a proper size wire stripping tool, and the DuPont pins and plug kits off Amazon. Here are their links if your interested.

I have found that 24ga. (3) lead wire works great for servo extension wires.

ddsjoseph, a member on our forums, has posted a pretty extensive build on the LX Mig-29 here in the HobbySquawk. I suggest you look that over as it will give you lots of ideas to work with in your build and if you need more detailed advice, drop him a PM.

As to your concerns about how fragile the fuselage area is near the elevators, you will be surprised as to how rigid that area gets once you glue down the vertical fins / rudders. there is no metal upgrade to mounting the elevators to the plane as of yet, but I was planning making something similar to what is commonly used in most FreeWing models in production now. ( I'm not sure if ddsjoseph has done so during his build but you can check ) My work on my Mig-29 is still a few projects down the road.

As to your next question concerning large ESC, are you talking about the type that have the heat-sink style metal body like the ZTW Gecko or the Castle Creations Phoenix?? If so, I would recommend you drop down to a 100 amp ESC like the Hobbywing type that is sold with most of the FreeWing 80mm models over at MotionRC. The 70mm power systems generally run up to 85 - 90 amps peak for the out runners and 90 - 95 amps peak for the in-runners. I am currently using a pair of ESCs that are normally sold with the FW Mig-21 to power my FW ME-262 with in-runner power systems. MotionRC also is carrying the new Tomcat ESCs used by Dynam now and they do have a 100 amp ESC available. These type are the usual heat-shrink wrapped type and they are a bit easier to mount in the air duct just like you would the original equipment from Banana Hobby.

Your last question to combine channels in a Y harness to free up channels does not sound like a good idea to try. The possibility of getting unexpected operations from your gear while in use could cause you problems and the ability to trouble shoot such issues will be diminished because now you have thrown that element into the game. I have not heard of any radio on the market now that can program multi-functions to operate on 1 single channel. We can program lots of multi-functions to interact with separate channels together, but not on a single channel. If your thinking of say, Y harness the Thrust Vector servos to their corresponding control servos across a gyro, that might work.

I have actually been looking to see if it would be possible to setup the flaps and gear on the same channel for a friend. I did find it is possible with a Y harness BUT you would need a 7+ channel radio.

If you only have a 6ch DSMX compatible radio such as the DX6 you could just use this new Admiral receiver with a built in gyro that does not take up any channels and it can still be controlled remotely.

Combining gyro mode with another function is probably a bad idea. There are better selections of what dual functions to get from a single channel

Combining Flaps and gear can be OK and you can even get the gear to operate in a semi-scale manner related to flaps with 3 to 5 position flaps.
Depending on the gear they will actuate as you pass some point of travel between appx 50% "up" neutral and 50% "down" of the 100% "up" to 100% "down" channel range. And not necessarily the same point in each direction
EG: as flaps go down it may not put gear down until the 30% down (past center of range) and then the gear may not go up until flaps are passing 30% up (past center of range the other way and headed to flaps all the way up)
Some retracts will trigger as you pass center of travel.

You can test where in the range your retracts will actuate by putting them on the throttle channel (disable ESC and use a separate battery to power the RX) then slowly move the stick.

                                  *******************

We used to make all sorts of secondary effects actuate through mechanical linkages.
One of the more common was to have >50% down cause a bomb release. Apply up to lift the nose, rapidly give the down needed then level the plane back out. It looks like a pop-up and drop then if done at low level.

i plan on changing the gyro a bunch depending on how I chose to fly that day. I don’t see the issue of doing this considerin you put two ailerons/elevator/entire landing gear on 1 channel

As long as the gear doesn’t go opposite the flaps. Which I would assume I reverse the two flap servos then reverse them in my dx8

Which brings my golden question to servos on channels

                                      -100to100 when programming servos

                                      Ex.(start with low numbers)

                                      2 channels on 1

                                      1. -100 to -50. 50 to 100
                                      2. -50 to 0. 0 to 50

the question is can you make servos that operate only on the numbers posted above

There would be more work on programming I’m sure , but is it doable on the Servo

Just about anything is doable with enough money. Making the servos only move at specific TX output values would require a special logic board instead of the common position comparator. Not a lot more complicated than the digital positioning system in some higher end servos.

In a way, the sequencers you can buy will do this now.
