Since I started flying the Waco, I can understand the desire for WW1 birds, here we are sitting on the 100th year anniversary of the start of WW1 and I'm sure we all have known people who fought in that conflict.
Considering this was the war that changed the opinion of airplanes in particular and airpower was literally invented in those four years, I would love to honor those who sacrificed their lives. America didn't come on board until 1918, but look at the contributions we made. Hats off to the 'Hat-In-The-Ring' (94th) squadron!! Many is the time I've read Eddie Rickenbackers biography of his time with them. If you don't know, and I can't believe there is one red blooded American on this site that doesn't know, Rickenbacker was America's top Ace in WW1 with 26 kills and the winner of the CMH among other things he accomplished in his remarkable life.
The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to start a new topic and see what everyone else thinks. I know the opinion has been expressed before in the forum, but lets get a concerted effort to see what we can do.
Getting to the point, I've read that the big problem with WW1 warbirds is the CG, since the radial motors dicated the CG in the real ones, you have to add a fair amount of weight to the front of the plane to offset that in an RC model.
Brainstorming this, I wondered if the LiPO battery couldn't be redesigned with the cells stacked?
I know nothing about their design and it might not be possible, but if it could, you could concentrate a fair amount of weight forward of the CG.
Of course there were planes like the SE-5 and the Fokker DR-7 that had inline motors, so that wouldn't be so much of a problem.....
