  • My new/used foamy park flyer.

    I snatched this up on E-bay to help me get started back into flying ,as I haven't flown in 20 years!
    I have only flown nitro's ,an think I can freshin up with EP.
    Been doing a little work here an there ,waiting for some micro servo's to come in the mail ,an eventually change it over to brushless!
    My regular camera took a dump ,so I had to learn how to use my go-pro for pics ,I will take better pics later an a vid when I get it going!...:)

    Looks like someone was adjusting CG by adding nuts on the prop shaft.

    Its usually better to carve a little foam so you can move the battery.

    What turns the prop doesn't matter if its the same airplane, same RTF weight and the same prop at the same RPM.

    So the transition to electric is mainly learning to use a wattmeter (when altering anything about the power system) and how to properly care for and charge your batteries.
    FF gliders and rubber power since 1966, CL 1970-1990, RC since 1975.

    current planes from 1/2 oz to 22 lbs

      The plane is one of the first Park zone flyers made ,so it does have the old brushed motor in it ,it does still work well ,an will use it for awhile!
      As for that huge counter weight goes ,it was already on there when I got it ,Lol......It is very heavy ,I'm not sure that I will need it after I get done
      changing the gear!

      Ive heard of people adding nose weights because of lift ,I just have to see an experiment with that category!
      I added a different ESC & REC. to it an made my on batteries ,they run the motor quite well ,however ,I did try one of my RC car 3's lipo
      an it made the motor scream.......LOL.....I like that! ,But did warm the ESC up a little!

      I'm ordering a new lipo flight pack to that will be a better fit ,My car lipo's are big an boxy ,they barely fit in my custom built Ofna LD3!

        Aircraft LiPos don't have the hard plastic case which is just dead weight in n airplane. In a crash the case would just shatter and poke holes in the battery.

        It the plane called for 6 cell NiCd, then 2S LiPo is appropriate. 3S would "want to turn the prop 50% faster and since the prop load goes up with RPM squared you overload the motor very fast by changing voltage but not changing the prop. (if the motor is even built to handle the higher rpm)

          You do got a point on the size of the batts as I am a newbie to lipo's ,Thanks for that info.!

          3's 11.1 is way too much for a little 380 size motor! The radio gear that I'm using came from another plane
          in which was using a battery of 8.4 NiCad pack ,but the motor was smaller.

          I built a lithium battery of a count of about 13.6 for a temporary for testing!

          Thank you for info as I know nothing about EP in aircraft applications!...:Cool:

            Electric motors are the same regardless of what you use them for.


            What would happen to the RC car if you swapped to tires of 3X the diameter without changing gearing, motor or battery?
            You'd burn up the motor, possibly before the car moved.

              Working on my bird ,taking it apart an installing regular hinges on flaps & rudder rather than the skin being the hinge ,also
              doing the packing tape rap for stiffness an durability!...

                Get the elevator halves rejoined even with each other... those are WAY off.

                  I just epoxied them together just now ,what you seen ,I haven't done it yet ,the previous owner wrecked it an only
                  repaired it with scotch tape!

                  Its glued straight now ,an now I'm putting a rap on!...:Smug:

                    Got my servo's in today ,the Y extension should be in tomorrow ,I'm running duels for ailerons!....:)
