FMS FW 190 Retract issue

Hello,

This is my first post on here of what I am sure will be many, my girlfriend did some super purchasing for an early Christmas present and I've ended up with the FMS FW190 1400. She had hinted around what she had got me and finally let the cat out the bag a few days ago and it arrived today. This is my first R/C aircraft, and based on what I've read I understand the fact that I may be jumping in a little (or alot) over my head. Either way I'm not one to shy from a challenge so I've been doing as much reading and youtubing as possible in the last few to get myself up to speed as much as possible on flying these bad boys, so stay tuned for more on my adventures.... :angel:

Anyways I read through the manual before beginning anything and watched Rich Bakers video on youtube 2x over and referred back to it as I assembled it this afternoon. She looked great in the box and went together w/o a hitch. Charged up a battery and after syncing the reciever to the transmiter everything worked except the starboard retract. Left works great, but right there's nothing doing, no movement of any kind, Isn't hung up on anything and doesn't hum or appear that its working at all. I checked the connections several times over and no dice, is the retract itself junk or am I missing something else?

So anyway's happy to be hear among more seasoned RC pilots, hope to be able to share my experiences and learn alot from you all!

Welcome to the world of flying you'll be a junkie in no time like the rest of us !
First off I don't want discourage you but your in for a major challenge with this being your first plane . But I must say your girlfriend rocks for what she did .
The first thing to try is unhook both retracts and try the one by its self . Make sure your wire is not turned as far as the color code is matching up . 
Do each retract solo just to be sure . If your confident the retract is not functioning, and she purchased it thru MRC , send them a email thru the contact tab on their website. If she has the ticket from where it was packed get the ticket number from it . If not the date and name of purchase will help in verifying for warranty . They will send a retract for you to replace . 
When you get the new one there are grub screws at the bottom of the strut that you loosen and the whole strut will pull out .

Also a bad retract is not unheard of , it's electric and mass produced so don't be discouraged.

Greetings SOB8604 (interesting),

To reiterate, Welcome to the forum.

The advice given thus far is spot on....... Often we are confident in our wiring only to double back and catch one of those DUH! moments.
I would recommend that you not only double/triple check wiring/servo connections and orientation but also the "pins" within the connectors.
I have experienced instances where a receiver pin was not clipped all the way into the receptical and although it appeared the connection was solid, the pin/receiver was being push away rather the inserted.

As mentioned, it is an unfortunate caveat of the mass-production of RC component world that QC is at times less than desireable and malfunctioning parts slip through the cracks. Fortunately, as also mentioned, no other vendor will do more to right any wrongs than MRC. 

Simply follow the procedure outlined and a quick resolution will be forth coming.

Gentlemen thanks for the warm welcome, indeed it was a wiring issue, trying this and that I narrowed it down to the wiring harness provided to go between the wing wiring and the receiver, one of the connections appears to be no good, so using another harness I got the gear down.

Was able to take it out this evening and spent some good time simply taxing around an empty parking lot to start getting the hang of its ground handling. Did some low speed and "high speed" taxing to get used to the rudder while on the ground, seems to handle fairly well.

yep, thats what I figured, had the same trouble in the P51B, checked the wiring and found I had it upside down as well, a quick flip and it was working fine.
My advice would be to get something simpler to learn on, Hippie, Rocteteer and I all swear on the Freewing Pandora, although, my first experience was on the Hobbyzone Supercub three channel trainer. You quickly outgrow it and move up to the Pandora-type A/C.
Start with something like the Pandora.
If you've never flown R/C odds are against you starting with the FW 190

Well here it is almost 3 years later...I wonder how the maiden on the FW190 went as SOB8604s' first RC plane....................? He did say he was gonna keep us informed. Hope he did not wad it up and get discouraged enough to just quit it all.
