  • FMS Extra 300 Landing gear issue

I flew my new FMS Extra 300 twice,
On my second landing which was not a kisser but it was not a hard landing either, the landing gear collapse.
It was due to the skinny plastic landing gear base that came unglued.
It damaged the front of the airplane, damaged the 3 prop set and more...................
I decided to make some modifications:
1- I installed a heavy duty gear (see attached pic)
2- I installed an E-flight power 32 motor and an ESC 60 amp
    3- I installed a 2 bladed prop (APC)  13 X 8

    Now I love this airplane.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem?

RE: FMS Extra 300 Landing gear issue

First welcome to the forum .
My first thing would be putting bigger wheels on it . You don't have to go super big but a bigger wheel will aid in taking some shock on landings that are little hard . Or put a tire of different material such a rubber . Looks like those are foam n soft but I'm not sure .
Your changing from a three prop to a two , investigate to but sure your size is correct . I believe when you do that you to go larger or smaller. Putting the same size I think is incorrect.
Noticed there is a plastic replacement part for that landing gear base . If yours is only unglued you may try using some good epoxy on it and coating really good to make the bond stronger .
Not sure if any of these help or not but keep us informed .

Nice set up.  Go with large wheels as recommended.  MRC has a good selection.  I always change out my wheels to low bounce ones whenever possible.

        Hi Brian
        Thank you for your reply.
        I changed to bigger rubber wheels from 1 5/8  to a 2 1/2 size
        See Pic
I also have thoroughly investigated the size of the 2 blades prop and it is correct. 13 X 8
A friend at The RC Scobee RC club is flying for one year with these modes, I actually copied from him.
As far as the plastic landing gear plate, not only it came unglue but was broken.
Happy Christmas and Happy New Year
