  • Looking for nice sized civilian prop driven plane

Title says it all. I thought about the FMS beaver but wanted everyone's thoughts on all the options. Sometimes I just want to chill and fly and not be all puckered ;)

Just so I'm clear here does that count out the carbon z offerings? I would say the carbon z Cessna. If not, as far as that goes I'm also gonna be in the market for one soon so it'll be interesting to see some opinions myself :)

I wont pay the money for the Carbon line. I know the t28 is legit but alas I have the v4 and cant justify the jump up. I have flown that though. Good times on that t28

The Flyzone Beaver is a very nice model. Forgiving flight qualities, and is good on floats as well. It is also considerably more detailed than the CZ models, even though it is smaller.

I was going to suggest the Eflight Corvalis but it takes 3s batteries. It would fit the bill for what you want, good size very scale and priced right. The 3s batteries aren't that expensive you might consider it?

That pretty much leaves the FMS Beaver as the only one cheaper than the CZ birds if you want foam. That said, there are some pretty nice balsa options around for similar pricing: https://www.horizonhobby.com/airplan...5e-arf-efl4625

My Top choice for a single engine prop civilian plane is the E-flite Cirrus SR22T. It runs on 3S batteries but they are cheap at $20 for a 2200.

Plus they already come with decent navigation lights and its also available with the AS3X stabilizer with the BNF version that is useful on windy days.

I have this plane and of all the "civilian" planes I have, this is my favorite. As far as being 3s, it will run 4s if you limit the servo travel on the throttle channel to 75%. However, that's not the problem with this plane. The Cirrus simply does not have the space to fit a 3000mah, 4s battery easily. It would have to go way back into the cabin, perhaps even further than it's handy to reach and you'd have to build a platform for it.

An afterthought .......................... I was going to get one of these this spring but I'm still sitting on the fence about the FlexJet.
This one is big, 4s power and videos show a real nice flying model.

Only thing is, it comes from Banana Hobby and for some, this is a big negative, but my latest dealings with them have been a non-issue.

E-Flite 25e Super Cub ARF for the win.

I have 50 foamies and it has given me great satisfaction, not only by enjoying the ARF build process, but it’s also a great flyer..

                        Slow is where it’s at.....

Good bird but they don't carry the yellow J3 anymore.
The green L4(Army) version is listed but when selected just gives the NE-1(Navy) blue version.
The yellow and green were made by Starmax and I suspect the blue one is too.
This US Navy (NE-1) version of the popular Piper J3 Cub is a must for all scale pilots. The details of the plane are extremely realistic and it comes in a great 1400mm size and like all Cubs is very easy to fly.

The colors dont bother me. It would be nice for FPV. Does it run on 4s though and 3000mah at that. Wonder if anyone on squawk has one.

I've got three green ones and a Navy version, great flyers on 3S and 4S 2200s... a 3000 would need some foam cutting to fit, it will easily fly 7-8 minutes on a 2200.

Is it super docile and chill? I imagine with the high wing its up and off and landing with ease. Stall much looks like super low wing loading.

I have a FW Pandora and a Flyzone DHC Beaver....BUT, Late last fall I purchased a SIG T-Clips 70. What a great easy lazy flyer..But, has great power for all the aerobatics you can do. 6s power in mine. 70 inch wingspan.

Might want to check out the new Maule from E-Flite. Uses 3 or 4 s batts. Flaps, floats, lights and real windows.
