Fast, very fast. A friend at the field put a 4s in his and it played tag with my P51 Strega. It does run really hot until he made an air cooling mod. It seemed to handle it just fine after that. But not all electronics in theses E-flight birds are built the same. Just because it worked in his dont mean it will work in yours. I recommend ditching the 30 amp ESC and putting in a 40amp ESC just to be safe. You let the smoke out and your screwed. Hope this helps.

+1 definitely upgrade your ESC... You smoke a ESC you will hate the outcome, they never fry on the ground! Here is a thread with what can happen.

I just recently put a power 15 motor in one and a gecko 45A esc. I used a 4000 30c 4s and this plane screams. You would think its nose heavy in the air but its not and it needs 3 feet to take off in grass (lmao). We are gonna radar it but some of the club guys are thinkin its pushing a hundo. Ill try to get a vid and post it but its unlimited vertical and you have to Turn Down the Master gains On AS3X. It has alittle yaw shake and alittle roll shake. Im putting a bigger ESC in it this weekend because i puffed the caps on the 45a, goin to gecko 65a. All in all dude try the mod, its crazy and the plane handles it like a dream

Hey guys,

I have both the Eflite P-51 and P-47 planes and I put in Eflite Power 15 motors, a 50 amp Hitec Sport ESC, and use an APC 10x6 2 blade prop. I run them using a Glaicer 4S-2200 to a 3000mah battery and they went from 45mph fliers to 75+. The CG is good for both batteries just dropping them in where they sit.

It's not about all out speed for me but that extra power is so much fun when you are doing your split S and big old loops.... You finally have some authority and catching up to some of the EDF jets is pretty fun too.

I stopped trusting those stock 30 amp ESC's that Horizon keeps putting in these planes with landing gear and flaps.....brownouts are no fun. Anyway for $100 you will turn your plane into a great plane, then just use the stock motor and ESC to power an older FMS 800mm Corsair like I did to mine. That plane is another story for later but it rocks too.....

Good info, Nick. Is this the Power 15 you were using? Does the motor mount require any modifications to fit? Is the spinner clearance gap on the P-51 noticeably wider?

The Power 15 bolts right up to the motor mount and I used the same prop adapter from the stock motor. I didn't notice any difference. It's a very easy change out and works so much better.

The power 15 specs say it's rated to 575 watts and they give prop sizes from 10 x 6 to 13 x 6.5, so I wanted to keep the watts below the max and the APC 10 x 6 gets you to 562 watts at 38 amps on the table. Since its a little less in the air and after the battery gets drawn down from its peak its flies perfectly and the ESC and battery are barley warm after 4-6 minutes depending on how hard you are flying. I always end up between 3.6 - 3.8 because I use my timer.

It's good to hear from you guys who know what all the specs on esc and motors are I'm new and all that stuff is confusing butt the more I read the more I understand how it all works Good chatter guys

Corsair Kid,
That is how you learn, from how to charge your batteries to making sure your plane is airworthy. Safety needs to be first in your mind because bad things can happen in a blink of an eye. Always remove your propeller before working on your motor, make sure all your control connections are glued in tightly, have your CG marked on your wings, and fly within your limits. Get a plane and fly it, land it, fly it a lot. Check it every time before you take off.

Ask questions, read the build guides, and respect your equipment. Learn how to use epoxy... It costs less than new planes. Then start building your fleet. It's so nice to bring your plane home the way it went to the field.
