    New FMS Zero

I posted these photos in another thread, but I thought I would put them here too.  I tried my attempt at weathering my FMS Zero and I think (even though I was winging it) it came out rather well.  She has that war-torn look I was striving for. Didn't want the new plane look. A bit of freehand airbrushing, and a topcoat of Minwax Poly and it came out pretty dirty looking. Can't wait to fly her in the spring....too cold here in Maine now.....4 below zero this morning.

Very nice job, you obviously have a knack for weathering. I'd like to do some of that on my FW P-51. I do have some airbrushing experience but am definitely NOT artistically enabled :( . Did you use acrylics? Any tips or techniques you could share would be great.

                Thanks

Thanks for all the kudos everyone, but this actually was an "as crap" moment originally. I just airbrushed a basic, hobby craft black on the panel lines. I didn't even do that great of a job, I thought at first. After a few hours I applied, by brush, a topcoat of the Minwax Poly. Well, it immediately started to smear the black! As I brushed lightly it spread and filled in everywhere. The final look is actually pretty cool. My next bird in process is the Freewing P-51. I also will attempt some weathering, but not as much as she is silver and I don't think it would look as good.

Yeah, you're right Keith, a little gunsmoke and exhaust stains and they look pretty good.  If you really want to get creative, paint the panels different shades of aluminum/chrome/silver to get a more realistic look.
