      RE: Warbirds Squadron

Those were the good old days, still remember it all very well and miss it. Every time I smell jet fuel, it brings back all of the memories.

While the guys out on the west coast are in shorts posting pics of their birds in flight, us pilots here in the NE are in the build/mod/refurbishment mode cause of snow and low temps. Well my grey Dynam PBY was in need of a facelift so here it is. Am gonna let the actual water from takeoffs/landings do the weathering on the hull/fuse.
Just keeping Warbirds Squadron looking sharp.

          Hello Squawk pilots,
Here are 2 more birds that got added to my fleet since I got back home from NEFI.
Just ordered the P-38 yesterday so I'll be adding that to this thread in a couple weeks.
The Skyraider flies like a BEAST. Added red beacons to scale locations on top vertical stab and the belly below dive brakes. The centerline drop I salvaged from the AD-4 crashed at NEFI and used these from the FW F-16C for attachment. https://www.motionrc.com/products/fr...hment-hardware Also salvaged the top forward scoop since HSD did a poor job of not having that there.
The PBJ was my Xmas gift, took my sweet arse time getting it here with over 30 hrs in the paint/livery change. Used this figure for the crew and hand painted each one(3 total) to have their own character look.

Your post caught my eye, as I am very interested in both these a/c. When you say flies like a BEAST, is that in a good way, or bad? Your photo appears that you fly from a grass strip, as do I. How do each of these two handle the grass? I would have to remove the outer wings from the nacelle outward in order to transport. Are they attached in a manner that will stand up to repeated disassembly? Great job in your B25 transformation.

Totally awesome Charlie, I love the new Skyraider, guess it was just meant to happen. The PBJ is soooo cool, videos we want to see it in the air before next year's Nefi.

Prowler - I had no doubt that you would since we're both Navy vets that served with A6's(in case you forgot!!) so it had to be a PBJ and besides that, the Apache Princess scheme that it came with is just way over done. Thanx for you appreciative comment.

Voodoo - The BEAST is a definite GOOD WAY. Nothing like ripping down the centerline of the runway, full bore at 10 feet off the deck and listening to that 16 inch diameter set of 4 paddles just shredding the air and then climb on out of the pattern and easily do a 200 ft diameter loop. A 5060-270kV motor on 6S gets the job done easily and I use two 4000mAh 6S Admirals in parallel which gives me 10 minutes of flight on mixed throttle. Grass runways is a non issue for either of these birds. The PBJ(B-25) wheels is stock 3.75" mains and 2.5" nose. I have 3.25" wheels on the A-1 from the FW P-51. The wing outer panels on the bomber are designed for repetitive removal(looks like a solid CF rod capturing point) but I couldn't tell ya what the longevity of that is as I haul it fully assembled. Thanx for your accolade.

Gman - I believe you are right that the loss @ NEFI was meant to be cause this HSD is soooo nice. Don't hold your breath for a video because it is the rare occasion that a video gets taken at this club for a member. Am hoping that someone will catch it on vid for me at the NEAT Fair when I go in about 3 weeks. If not you will see it first hand next year at NEFI. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Lightning:)

Boomer and FF - Thanx guys

Lon - Absolutely, instead of bringing 15 I have reset the layout and am now set to haul 12 big guns. It's been a long wait on the 38 but the gig monies finally accrued and now I just need the green to be sent on it's merry way to upstate NY. Was kinda amazed that Motion didn't get it out today, must be the restock of the silver backlogged them over the weekend.

I'm going to figure how to get some video footage with the Rebel for the next Nefi as it would seem were not going to see any of the footage that Mike and Ryan shot this year. Trouble with the rebel is that when in video mode, you can't look through the view finder and the screen is very hard to see in the bright sunshine. I'll figure it out, rig a gun sight on the top!!
I love the fact that next year's Nefi is already shaping up. Guys, if you can, plan on coming. If for nothing else, you gotta see Charlie's collection, just beautiful..
Which reminds me, Mr. Navy Guy, you are getting the Blue Angels Hellcat for that collection aren't you Charlie??

Prowler............Would like to meet up with ya too! A day or so before the event begins I'll know for sure if I'm going or not based on the forecast and then we'll make contact arrangements if I'm going. Wish the owner of Peaceful Valley would return my three calls so I now what the squating costs are.
Dan......... It's on the list. Lets see, between now and year end there is my B-day, Black Friday and Xmas so something should happen.

                                        Hello pilots,
Updating my thread with pics of my P-39 and P-38.
The P-39 is a 1/8 scale VQ that replaces the VQ 1/6 scale version that I got stupid with out at NEFI. The old airframe was repairable but I decided to retire it and get the size that fits the rest of my fleet. It is a 48" span and this time I have retracts. I've got the nose gear https://www.motionrc.com/products/fm...ystem-fmmpi113 and spinner https://www.motionrc.com/products/fm...inner-fmmpi106 from the FMS 980 'Hells Bells' Cobra with the main gear retracts from the Freewing Stang using the same size wheel as on the nose of the FL Lightning. I used the FMS 3948-760kV motor https://www.motionrc.com/products/fm...motor-fmmkv760 turning an 11x7x3 Dynam prop on a 4000 4S which makes this 4lb airframe haul pretty good using 480 watts. I would say it is as fast as my FL Seafury.
The FL Lightning is almost as docile as my Bronco, it is my second favorite twin and ranks #3 in the fleet behind the Bronco and Skyraider. Finally am glad to get it added to the fleet.
