  • FW190 1120mm cg problem

I have the Freewing FW 190 1120 mm , first off its a beauty . CG says 90-105 which I think is a lot of flexibility but it is in the book . I cant get it to balance at all . It will nose over or tail back no matter how or what I do . Wheels up wheels down doesn't matter . It is close but if I let go it will drop or nose over !! I cant figure it out . Any ideas ??????? Its not a slow fall it just goes .

    Hey Bryan!
I'm just wondering, are you doing it with the plane upside down?
You probably are, but just trying to eliminate all possibilities.

No I found the problem . The pads on the balance machine have a ball that they snap into . Somehow they were not snapped all the way in on one side . No clue how or why that happened but its all good now . CG is right on and airborne tomorrow !!!!!!!

Sounds like you figured it out. Do you still need me to call you?

Just wanted to tell you the new retract set up is prefect !!! If anybody replaces with the new on a older date model they will need the mounting adapter . The old setup has different hole alignment .

I have the plane and the cg is wrong. I had to add nose weight and it flies great.  Not sure why people are having problems with the retracts but they work great.

                  Hi Bryan

Have you had a chance to maiden the FW190 yet? I was all set to pull the trigger on this plane, but then Grossman just HAD to post a couple nice videos of a P40, and that got me checking on those for a bit. ( there's just something about seeing and hearing the real thing that gets a guys blood pumping) But now I'm back on track with the 190 and would like to hear your review on it

Hey Cpt , mine is in the top of a tree ! I couldn't get it to fly correctly. Was very pitchy then just boom in the tree . Bad part is so high I can't reach it .
Retired flyer posted that in his experience the CG is wrong . Sent him a Msge to hear what his findings are . I really like the plane and want another but not sure yet .

Oh No!!! That makes for a bad day!
I had that happen last fall. Luckily I was able to duct tape a bunch of broom sticks together and knock it down. That drew a bigger crowd than flying the plane. Kind of embarrassing, but part of the flying experience I guess
Hope you can retrieve it somehow

Time to invest in a drone with a hook!
Seriously, that sucks man, hope you can figure a way to get it down.  Around here, just wait for the wind to come up, which usually isn't long!

I keep hoping the wind will bring it down but it's not been strong enough. It's a easy 60 feet up and tree is not able to be climbed . So much around that it's just can't do anything about getting up to it . Wife is telling me to just write it off but I keep hoping .

Man, I feel for you H64! It sucks to lose a plane on the maiden flight. With a bit of luck, maybe the wind will knock it down soon. A friend of mine lost his new Scimitar on the second flight into a bunch of pine trees. Lost it in the sun, and didn't spot it again until too late. It was going pretty fast and it was completely shredded. He managed to get what was left of the fuselage back and save the electronics, but the plane was a total loss. Sad to see one go like that.

I have to agree Loneflier. Losing a plane on its maiden in a tree sucks! I lost my Corsair on its maiden this past Oct. The right aeilron servo failed on my turn to final and hit the top of a 70 ft pine tree. I was fortunate enough to have it fall out of the tree just as I approached. The wings had large dents in the leading edge so did the horizontal stab and the fuse looked like it had battle damage. Except for the bad servo I probably could have flown it again that's how tough the FMS Corsair is. Well thanks to MotionRc I ordered some new parts and I ready for the second maiden soon as the weather gets better here in Chicago. Good flying guys.

Hang in there  Bryan, no pun intended.  What goes up must surely come down.  Damned frustrating, 60 feet is fire dept time.   I wonder if a tree pruner would help or the electric company?  You'd have to weigh out the cost, but it sounds like a cherry picker thing.  Fire depts have been known to rescue cats from trees, so you never know
