  • FMS 1450MM P-51 Racer Build

    Hello all,

New to the hobby, currently trying to ware out both of my trainers and build time up. So excuse my lack of knowledge on the topic and hobby.

I recently bought a FMS 1450MM second had that is in ok shape but is rough enough for a new build. Plan is to build as a racer base plane, some aero mods, and power changes. Anyone done this or have experience with modifying foam planes for speed but staying true to the scale?

I refuse to change to a 2 blade prop, as they are not scale. I am going to stay with a 4-blade prop, that being said, what is everyone using for power with the scale prop?? Looking to go as fast as possible, again, staying within the scale.

I will post pictures as the build goes!!

Any and all help or advice is appreciated!!

There is an entire thread here and over on RCG dedicated to this plane. Suggest you read through both of them. Anything can be made to go stupid fast, even foam. Just need to spend the cubic dollars lol. Decide on what batteries you want to use, and how nimble you want it to be. There are great 4s, 5s and 6s combos out there. Carbon fiber is your friend for light strengthening. You can drill holes in the foam and then insert the carbon fiber inside the fuselage, tail, elevator and wings for lots of extra strength for high g manuvers. The tock 4 blade prop is good, but if you are going to go for really high RPM the spinner will come apart. There is a person who made some metal spinner backs, and may are hoping he will be making more.
In the end, its a matter of cubic dollars being the biggest factor.

Thanks! I have read that post, almost all of the posts on that thread actually. Haha Lots of great info on there and i am pretty positive on the power direction i will goin, as i already have loads of 4s battery's i will stay with those.

That being said, i have yet to find on that thread or on some of the other threads ive looked thru on plane modifications, changing the air frame its self. Clipped wings, small canopy, smoothed out and what not. That is the real big on i have had zero luck with. If you or anyone else has seen that posted somewhere else please do let me know!
