Avios Hawker Sea Fury!!

Greetings Gang,

Just completed the build of the new 1200mm AVIOS Sea Fury and I am VERY impressed.

This baby has some really nice features like Molded Plastic Split-Flaps (not foam), Full Metal Main Gear/Retracts, Delayed Timed Gear Doors, Plastic Cockpit/Hatch Cover (not foam) w/Pilot, Molded Plastic Pre-painted  Rockets (not Foam), Magnetic Ejectable In-Flight Drop Tanks (weighted foam), Nav Lights, 4 or 5 Blade Prop Configuration w/Spinners and more.

The photos really don't do this plane justice. Hoping to fly this and a few others if there's ever a thaw!!!

I just finished building one as well and applied a coat of Beacon's Hobby Coat to protect the finish.  This is much better than using mini-wax, I think.  This is one great looking and flying plane.  The 5-blade prop is impressive!

I just finished building one as well and applied a good coat of Beacon's Hobby Coat to protect the finish.  This is much better than Mini-wax and does not add weight.  It dries quickly and looks great.  As oppose to using the magnetic drop tanks, I use the channel to install a Eagle Tree Guardian.  This bird really flies great.  The 5-blade prop is impressive.  I am using a 3600 50C battery from Motion.  This set up gives really good power and flying time.   I really like this plane.  The details are just outstanding.

I'm glad to hear that you too are pleased with this model.
It really is quite impressive. Rain/Ice/Snow have prevented me from getting mine to the field however, today is providing quite a melt.

I will guess that the "gaurdian" is a kind of stabilizer unit?
If so, is this something you felt the plane required characteristically? Are you using dual rates and/or any expo?

Did you try flying it prior to adding the Guardian?

Interested in your thought.

Yes, i fly the plane straight first (without engaging the Guardian stabilizer) to trim and make sure every thing works before engaging the stabilizer.  Once satisfied, I engage the stabilizer at high altitude  in case something goes wrong.  If this happens, I just switch back to normal mode.  I had no issues in the 2D mode and the plane flew like a dream.  There was  no need to use the 3D gyro mode.  So, I did not; only used the 2D for stable flying.   The plane flies so well without the stabilizer any way.  We have had a lot of wind here lately and this is where the stabilizer really is useful.  On landing with the stabilizer, the plane really behaves nicely during windy conditions.  Hope this helps.

One really sweet plane! I've got about 20 flights on mine. Just released the drop tanks for the first time last night...really cool! I did swap the stock foam tires for a pair of Dubro 2.25" low bounce rubber tires...drop in fit and really work nice on pavement. I love the look and climb with the five blade prop but it is near impossible to balance it so I must say I prefer the four blade for overall performance. Retracts, flaps, lights are flawless. And the in air look is gorgeous!

I just checked the HK site to read the reviews on this plane.

The only review is fajrly negative, it mainly addresses the retracts.

Putting that aside I was toying with the idea of giving myself a present, but when I went to check

the spare parts available I was disappointed.

Both of the prop sets are on back order, and only one of the spinners is available with the other being
on backorder.

Not impressed, I always order a bunch of extra props and spinners when I buy a plane.

So, not sale. At least for now.

Will have to wait for the FMS P-39, or I should say the RocHobby P-39.  I bet they have extra props and spinners when it is released.

It is true...my left LG mounting pocket popped out after a poor landing put too much side load on the gear. No damage and nothing a little adhesive couldn't fix. Like you DR, I always order extra props and when I bought my Fury from the east warehouse they only had four-blade replacement prop blades in the international warehouse. I hestitated due to shipping but pulled the trigger on two sets the following day. Glad I did! Not only because they are now back ordered but I've buggered a couple of blades while getting used to this bird. All that said, it is an amazing product and flies super nice. Don't scratch it off your list just yet.
