Freewing SpaceWalker

When I first saw this plane, I knew I would buy it. I am not disappointed, almost. The fit and finish is excellent. It really looks better now that I've removed some of the decals and given it a clear coat. Flying is a dream with plenty of power for scale and beyond. Landings are easy on grass or hard surface

But, and there has to be a but, take offs are a challenge. If I try to to a scale take off, it ground loops like crazy. The only way I can get it off the ground is to give it full throttle and be ready once it breaks ground.

Most of my planes are tail draggers, so I'm pretty good with them.

Please, anyone have suggestions. They would be appreciated.

Hello Daswitz, I've had this plane for several years now, and agree with you on the power and aerobatic capabilities. However, mine takes off with no unusual problems. Could be that since I always fly off grass, I've not had the ground looping issues you are experiencing. You might try it off the grass and see if it helps. I just slowly advance throttle with right rudder until the tail lifts, then increase throttle and some up, and she lifts right off. Hope that helps.

daswitz    I have an FW Spacewalker and it flies like a dream. Yes, it does require right rudder on takeoff. I have learned that on grass, with most planes, you just punch it and get it into the air. My Spacewalker did require some trimming and weight (battery) adjustment. My maiden was very scary, but now, I love to fly her! Good luck! The Doctor
