  • My Hanger

Hey all, figured I'd introduce myself and show off my hanger  :D

My name is Ryan, and I hail from the Pacific Northwest.

My father and I both got into the hobby around January/February of 2014. We actually started by flying some foam board planes like those on FliteTest (www.flitetest.com) and have sense moved to foamies and balsa ARFs.

I've been trying to give the old "college try" to many aspects of the sport: scale, sport-scale, pattern, 3D, Helicopters, multi-rotors & aerial photography/video.

Currently in my hanger are the following:

    FT-22 (http://store.flitetest.com/ft-22-speed-build-kit/)
    FT-Mustang (http://store.flitetest.com/ft-mustang-speed-build-kit/)

Nice fleet there Ryan. :D  At your current rate of aircraft acquisition you should start planning to build an actual hangar  . I'm pretty new to the forum myself (but not the "addiction" :P )  I have very fond memories of learning to fly with my dad way back in 1972 with a Sterling Fledgling(google it ;) ). Treasure these times with your dad, they don't last forever unfortunately.

      Welcome Ryan,
19 planes in a year! I would say that is an addiction. Very impressive. You and your dad are certainly covering all aspects of the sport. Have fun and keep us updated.

        Thanks guys!

In all fairness, the FT planes are made out of $3 posterboard... and the AR-Drone I've had about a year before I started with RC :P
That, and our acquisition of planes have actually slowed down... the CAP-232 was the last plane I purchased, which I'm still working on getting together

My dad has a good list of planes himself: 62" balsa cub, 2 GreatPlanes Sukhoi, 2 flyzone beavers (one built from parts of 3 different planes, nicknamed frankinbeaver), bushmaster (nicknamed bushb*tch) durafly T-28, FMS Zero, BlitzRC Corsair, FMS Pitts, a couple FT planes, a couple 450 helis, and various micros lol :P

Needless to say, his garage is quite full of RC aircraft!

Hey Ryan! I watched your tricopter vid yesterday and if you ever need help with it let me know. I have a Y-6 that I built last year that is my favorite multirotor for carrying my GoPro. Anyways, welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the offer Lauren! :)

            Y-6 eh? very cool!

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding it... went with a different frame (Turnigy Talon) and I've also picked up the 3DR Pixhawk controller to use instead of a multiwii hacked to use megapirate :P

I've also been considering going with the Y-6 frame as well... get rid of the need for a servo tail

Oh you'll like the Pixhawk WAY better! Holds like a rock! (Wait.... Rocks don't hold anything... LOL) One of my friends has one on a quad he has. All my stuff is NAZA flight controllers except for my little 250 which is just an OpenPilot CC3D board. Let me know how you like the PixHawk!

Yes, they said 70 degrees this weekend, forgot to mention the wind though!
I was up at 7:00 just as the sun was coming up, usually a peaceful time for wind, not today, the flags at the school wee almost straight out.  Heck of a dust storm as well on the ride home from Billings.  Still cloudy and windy, warm though!!

Dang wind kept up.  Saturday was bad enough, got up with the sun on Sunday and the wind was still at it.  Just enough to keep me on the ground, not wicked, but just enough.  Now tomorrow when I drive to work it will be perfect, guaranteed!
That's how I know its Monday!

Hey tomorrow here in eastern NC its going to be 80 with 3-5 mph winds until after lunch. I have been laid up since the VA took my right foot on Dec. 19 2014. Got me a new foot and a hanger full of birds some that I have built while being held hostage. I keep a park flyer..the HK Junior in my car with a battery and transmitter ready in case the flags are laid down. Yep I am retired. USN Fighter pilot now amputee. Not going to let that stop me. I hope you fellas get some clear skies and 0 wind soon. If not just head on over here in New Bern NC. I have 3 spare rooms and plenty of planes. Go Navy.

Here's some pics of my P-51 and Corsair... this was about a week ago or more. Got the sound system in the Mustang now, just working out the kinks in getting the throttle sync working. Seeing as how we're finally getting some typical PNW weather now, looks like I've got some time to work on that & the gear door issue with my Corsair :P

did the maiden yesterday, tested the FPV connection and did some hover & gimbal tests. Once the weather gets better again (might try this Saturday) I'll get a flight video up on my YouTube Channel :D
