    Hey All

I just ordered the E-flite P51D with the AS3X receiver. Does anyone here have this plane? If so, how do you like this receiver? This is my first plane with a gyro assist and would appreciate any feed back on it. Thanks in advance

    RE: E-flite P51D Mustang

I have this plane without the AS3X and love it, not having any planes with gyro I cant comment on that part. I can say that after it is trimmed out I fly mine 50% throttle hands free, go full throttle and she climbs, go to about 20% throttle I bet if given enough room she would land her self. I have flown in some good winds with her and not had much hassle with her. As with all mustangs (it seems) on landing you want to keep up some speed or she will tip stall and fall out of the sky. You want to set up some Expo and dual rates this plane can become a hand full at full throw if you get a little heavy on the sticks, don't get too far away it is easy to loose orientation. You can download the model on your spektrum, seems to fly great with that set up. What battery are you going to fly with?

      Hi Sean

I plan on using 3s 2200mah batteries. I'm hanging out in the 3s planes since I have so many of those batteries. Haven't made the move to 4s yet, but probably will when I run out of 3s planes to buy.

I have an 800mm P51 and love it, so I'm really looking forward to this bigger one.
I'm not sure if I'm going to like the AS3X, but it was on sale so I figured I'd give it a shot. (have a feeling I'm going to shut it off)

By the way, I like the videos you have out there!

Holy crap! The plane showed up today! Wasn't expecting it till tomorrow. MRC totally ROCKS!!
Bruce (my ups guy) stuck around and we opened the box together, and started drooling. Gorgeous plane! Well packed and no damage. Now I gotta find some time to put this bird together. Dang work keeps getting in the way of this hobby.

            Hey Captain
I have this plane and I can't say enough about it. The finish is great and it just looks beautiful as far as the gyro is concerned it flys on rails no matter what the wind is doing and can fly real slow without stalling . I was going to buy a second one but decided to go with the Freewing I already bought the AS3X for it. MRC really Rocks Enjoy!!!!

Congrats on your new addition. I recently made the move to 4s and loving it. The larger planes fly better and are more stable in the wind. Make the jump I think you'll like it.

                  Hey Chevstar

I'm still leery of the gyro since I've never used one before. Do I need to add elevator mix with the flaps, or does the gyro take care of that for me?

Hey Captain        All you have to do is follow the directions in your manual .  Set dual rates at 100 and 70 and if I remember right you mix 10% up  elevator with the flaps  I want to tell you just fly the plane like you fly all your other planes and you will be a happy camper believe me you will love it.  To check your gyro directions put the flaps down and you will see the corrections easier mine were all correct because the airplane is set up at the factory I didn't have to even trim anything. Hope I answered  all your concerns if not just let me know. :D  PS you have to throttle up for the gyro to take effect.

                        Hey Chevstar

Manual? What manual. There were no directions or anything in the box. Not that directions were needed, it took like 10 minutes to put together. Easiest build ever.
I will follow your advice and mix 10% up elevator. Its kind of neat how that gyro works. Just so it works in the air! Since I have no manual, do you remember what the COG is?

Hi Doc, I'm sure you will find room for it!!

I just cleaned out my shop. We're talking an archiological dig here! 4 pickup loads to the dump!!! I think I see one spot for that P-51. Contact MRC about that manual. Did you look under the bottom foam? Thats where they usually put it, for some strange reason.

AHH there's the manual.. It was taped to the bottom of the foam box... Thanks Doc! Kind of a stupid place to put it, but maybe I'm stupid for not looking there. Got the plane balanced and read through the manual. Now just need the weather to cooperate so I can maiden her.

I keep swearing I'm not buying anymore foamies. I guess I should stop swearing! This is going to be my next plane when that SS check comes in. I'm really excited about the retracts. Never have used them. Has any one flown this plane off grass? Doc

I FINALLY got to do the maiden flight tonight. The pucker factor was zero! The AS3X works amazing. The wind was blowing around 5 mph but in flight I couldn't really tell. Makes me look like I know what I'm doing when I do maneuvers lol
The plane can fly really slow and seems to have plenty of power.
The retracts work great and even held up on a gravel runway. I am super happy with it!
