RE: FMS 980mm P-40B??
Just maidened mine last week. Beautiful finish and details, retracts and flaps all solid. I believe it uses the same power set up as the Roc Hobby pylon racers, no shortage of power with the stock set up. I will be changing my 3 blade prop to a 12/12 cut down to length which run on all my racers, it adds substantially more power/speed. Make sure to place the 4s 2200 lipo all the way forward just slightly past the wood bat tray for proper cg.Originally posted by IfIHadWingsDoes anyone have any experience with this model? We made 3 videos on it. One assembly vid, one Flight vid, and one with the A3L gyro vid. All were a blast to do. Great plane. Right now the Kawasaki is killing me, loving it. By the way those who don't feel the need for breaking the sound barrier will be glad to know that these little rocket ships perform great on our 3 cell 2600 as well.Originally posted by IfIHadWingsDoes anyone have any experience with this model? RE: FMS 980mm P-40B??
I saw someone who just bought one of these and brought it out to the field for the first flight.
He set the 4S battery in the center of the tray. Lined up with the velcro straps. Seemed like in the center of the wing... I watched him take off and it seemed to lift off okay. Then, the horror began as it was swooping nose up with any thrust at all. Writing the letter "W" in the sky over and over. Then when the pilot tried to slow it down to stop the swooping, stalled and death spiral.
Watching the plane fly, I would have guessed that the battery shifted back on lift off.
When we pulled the plane out of the ground, the battery was out of it's straps and all the way to the nose from impact. Even smashed the battery a bit on the end facing the front... (Obviously)
But my sleuthing can't help but think that it was tail heavy, very badly after the shift.
I asked the pilot if there was velcro and straps. He said just straps.
So, anyway. The plane needs a new fuse. Wings and tail feathers are okay.

Always tough when you hear stories like this, especially on maiden flights. I fly mine with the Admiral 2200 bat forward and lined up with the bat tray. Only the frontmost strap is useable as the middle strap is exactly at the back of the bat, and the velcro strip on the tray holds it in place.Originally posted by ThosmosisI saw someone who just bought one of these and brought it out to the field for the first flight.

Do you think that setting the battery in the center of the tray would be too tail heavy? The use of this CG balancer has taken out the guess for me.Originally posted by ThosmosisDo you think that setting the battery in the center of the tray would be too tail heavy? Thats exactly what I did the first flight and handled terrible, having the bat in the middle of the tray will likely end the flight in pieces.Originally posted by LonThe use of this CG balancer has taken out the guess for me.Originally posted by ThosmosisDo you think that setting the battery in the center of the tray would be too tail heavy? RE: FMS 980mm P-40B??
I check CG often. But sometimes you get a Parkzone plane or something and the battery bay is carved out for the cell. These types of planes are designed with showing you where to place the battery. Often balancing with recommended cell when stock. But some planes, I know, are built with the battery weight and bay location as an afterthought.
