There was a previous thread here re the original retracts for the F2G but could not locate. After replacing the retracts 3 times on my Corsair I mothballed the bird until I could find a suitable replacement for the originals which are literally junk. You can mod the retracts from the Strega, Critical Mass, or Voodoo to fit into the original wells of the Corsair. Obviously the main difference is the gear wont rotate 90' like the originals, together with the fact the struts are approx. 1/2" longer than originals. The replacement struts are not removable from the retract and are installed at the factory with a pressure fit. In order to rotate the gear 90' I placed vice grips on the lower part of the strut just above where they enter the retract. I slowly rotate the retract itself 90' until the wheel is in alignment with the retract. One of my units moved successfully still maintaining a strong pressure fit between the strut and retract housing which should not work loose. The other unit seemed to break a bond, weather mechanical or glue I do not know, which caused the strut to rotate freely in the retract. I roughed up the surface and am using some epoxy to set the joint where the shaft enters the retract housing. If this is not strong enough I will use some JB Weld epoxy which I have used in the past and is very useful, just make sure you dremel the area where the shaft enters the housing to rough it up. The only takeaway on this mod is the strut does not rotate and approx. 20% of the wheel area sticks above the original wheel well but in my opinion still offers enough streamlining not to affect performance, and the stance of the bird will be approx. 1/2" higher.
I am happy not to have to spend $40 a pop every time the originals crap out, and use the $15 replacements instead which to date have worked flawlessly.
