Bad day for the E-flite P47

Today I took the Beaver and the p-47 to the field.  I flew the Beaver first and it handled the wind beautifully. I brought it in and set it on the tonneau cover on my pickup.  Then I took up the p-47.  Just as I took off, a gust of wind started blowing the Beaver off the pickup. In an effort to save the Beaver, I lost control of the p-47 and  hit a light pole  :(




Note to self... Don't set airplanes on pickup on windy days

OUCH!! That had to hurt, but looks repairable(easy for me to say :rolleyes: ). I had a big thermal move across our field one day while I was flying and pick up three planes and smash em into a chain-link fence. Guess I was lucky I was so far away I didn't even think about saving em and kept flying.

Wow, sorry to hear that Capt. Crunch! I always hate to hear of a crash and that's really bad trying to save one and end up actually crashing another. :-(

Hi Guys, sorry to hear of your wind mishaps.  What some of the guys at our club do is to cut off the leg of an old pair of jeans, stitch up one end and fill the leg with sand, then stitch the other up.  They drape this over the back of the fuselage, near the tail to hold the plane down.  Great idea!

I use dolllar store bungee cords hooked into wiper blade arms then up around each wing,solved.

WOW! Are you sure that was just one pole???
Man, that sucks!!! Sorry, for the mishap!!

I hope it is salvageable.

Thanks for your kind words guys!

Still trying to figure out how I'm going to fix this one. When I snapped a wing off the Beaver I was able to splice the carbon rod together with a 6 inch piece wood dowel. The P47 has a flat spar that goes through the wing, so the same type of fix won't work. Desperately trying to figure something out, because I don't want to spend money on parts when I could be buying another plane on my list!

Where there's a will there's a way!

I was able to run a new spar through the wing and glue it all together with 2 part epoxy. Just did the re maiden, and it flies great! Shes not the prettiest anymore, but I plan on repainting it this winter.

Good job!  Now she just looks war weary.  You can get some of the foam tack filler from Motion R/C

and it will help hide a lot of the damage as well, there's a great video on how to use it as well.  I've found that sometimes it takes three or four light coats to get where you want to be, but hey, if its a winter project, you've got a fair amount of time.

I hope your not planning of asking for help on your Turbo jet! Lol If I remember right, that thing ended up in a lot of itty bitty pieces. But, at least yours was caused from equipment failure. Mine was somewhat self induced
