  • How many happy Dynam HellCat owners?

I wanted to take a moment and give a little credit to an airplane model maker that very rarely gets any positive credit, Dynam. Yea we all love to hate them, but they're a lot of us that fly them on regular basis, and love it. Some of my coolest most beloved planes are Dynam planes. One of my most beloved Dynam planes is the Dynam Hellcat. They have a considerable fan base & loyal following at all (3) of the flying clubs I'm a member of with myself included.

They're is a reviewer that recently had a, "Dynam Beat Down" of their Hellcat model. I, like many found it insulting personally, but speech is free. I didn't even like the way the guy handled the model when he was un-boxing it. He quite latterly un-boxed it like it was a bunch of trash. Nuff said. If you want the true picture of this model, watch Captain Mike's, and Pilot Ryan's review of this cool plane, and ignore that one.

The biggest benefit of the Dynam Plane is obviously price point. If you watch the sales, IE Banggood, Grayson, General Hobby, as well as many more, you can get this very nice plane for under 130 Dollars PNP. This plane is beautiful, yes it has issues. But if you know your way around an RC plane you can correct those issues and have a very cool, great flying plane in your hanger. For an unheard of price. They have good power, but not unlimited vertical as some may. But let me tell ya, there are very few real planes in the sky that have truly unlimited vertical. Flying a Dynam Hellcat is very much like flying a real plane in regards to real world performance. I like that, many don't.

The best part! If you make a mistake, and seriously pancake it. It's very easy on the wallet to get another, or two LOL. The price of most other Hellcat models will buy you almost (3) of these! Crashing is part of flying RC man, seriously!

So I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks Dynam. I like your Hellcat, and will probably end up owning a few more. So how many happy Dynam Hellcat owners around here?

    Best Regards
    Woody

I love mine and have flown it a lot. I changed out the retracts and changed the esc now it is a great plane. I also put Dave Brown wheels on made a big difference.

I flew mine till it literally came down in a fire ball from hell. Its the first warbird I ever flew and its a great little plane. I can only hope Tom has a 1600mm in the pipe.

Yuuup, If ya don't modify the plane with some additional vent holes for the motor, little heat there for sure. Yea a FreeWing HellCat would be nice. They then can join the club or you could just buy one of these:

These aren't cheap ones, but I think we can agree Hanger 9, and Top Flight make pretty nice models.

Or many of lessor ones. Some here seem to like it big LOL. But the existing choices for Hellcat models is wide and varied.

But the Dynam is a truly beautiful model, most anyone can buy for a little chump change. You don't have to sell these things, they quite literally sale them selves. No there not perfect, and yes Zeto, (thanks for that mate) they do need a bit of a cowl cooling issue. So if you buy one make sure to trim the plastic between the cylinder plastic pistons, and cut an exit channel in the foam behind the foam cowl to let the air get out from behind the cowl.

Yea, they're not perfect by any means. But I love em.

            Best Regards

Ya know, I love my Dynam's but let me tell ya, that "Hanger 9" has really stunned me. LOL. Hanger 9 for under 300 bucks, I'm wondering if that's a typo?? Best part about that one is it won't sound like your landing a beer cooler. LOL

You'll really be stunned when the completion cost with electric power and retracts pushes the cost to $700 :Scared: and then it doesn't even have flaps :P
I predict that with the latest release of the FL Corsair having opened the door on 1600 sized rotating retracts that are affordable that we'll be getting sometime down the road a phenomenal foam 1600 Hellcat.;)

Hey buddy! Just so ya know, I am waiting on that OV10 Charley, so I consider you one of my friends. So okay, I have always valued your opinion mate. But you're never going to convince me, (just me) That I will enjoy any foam model better than a traditionally built model. You know the difference mate, just listen to them when they land. Feel them touch them, I don't have to make a case here do I? Yes they're more expensive. There is also nothing wrong with Eflight rotating retracts.

This isn't to say I don't like Foam models, as I do. Especially the Dynam Hellcat. Yea I always hate the way it sounds when I land. But if you're landing on grass, well you probably don't notice it as much.

Me personally, (just me). "DO NOT NEED" a new Hellcat, Zero, P-51, P-40(well maybe a P-40),P-47, Hawker Hurrricane, Etc. The market is full of em! Totally full of them! I don't give a *ats *as if HSD, FMS, DYNAM, EFLIGHT or FLIGHTLINE makes another model that has been literally beaten to death in the last 60 years of model aviation. Over, and over, and over, when are we suppose to move forward into things that haven't been done?

So with that said mate. I am really hoping we get that OV-10. I'm truly looking forward to it mate. Nice looking plane, and hasn't been done so much. I'm in your camp on that one for sure. Just not any other of those do over, and over, and over, and over, Etc. Christ how many times do they have to be done over? Until we get right I guess. Can't wait for the next new and improved P-51. I know it's coming. LOL

Come on Charley, you and everybody else knows how opinions are. I'm just one person man.

So with that said, Merry Christmas to you Charley! I hope you and your family have a warm and happy holiday season, and a Happy New Year!

                Best Regards

After putting 3ozs of lead in the nose, mine flies great now. Did have issues with the retracts in the cold but I guess that is to be expected. May go ahead and change them out to the Eflite. Only other issue I had was the nav light leads had no plugs on them. Installed those and only one light works. Probably swap them out as well, but still a good base to customize. Just have to get decals ordered from Callie.

                        Hi Everyone,

New to the Squawk. I just recently purchased this beautiful bird and should be delivered soon. I have done my due diligence by reading up on the many threads out there for this warbird. For those that have cut vents in the cowl to help with cooling, would anyone mind sharing a photo of how they accomplished that? I just want to make sure I do it correctly. Does it look bad after you do this? How much do you sacrifice the look of the plane after cutting vents?

Happy flying! Can't wait to get her in the air :)
                        Happy flying!

I just took a small pair of "sharp" scissors and nipped off the spaces between the cylinder. Super easy. On the inside of the foam cowl, I just cut two, (one on each side) 1" wide by about 1/8" deep air channels to let the air exit at the rear of the cowl. Cutting the rear of the plastic dummy radial took 2 minutes.
The foam cowl took a bit longer a little more to cut, but not much. I do this to most of my Dynam planes. I really don't think they have figured this out about the cooling yet. "Landing Gear" if they work, use them LOL. Like I said, they are suppose to be better now. I let my best friend fly my first one, (I have 3). When he picks up my planes he likes to check balance. It's nose heavy! he says. I said to him don't touch it, just fly it, it likes nose heavy. He gave me a WTF look. Took it off, liked it so much, he ordered one that day. As he lands, he says, "It really doesn't feel nose heavy when you fly it", I just smiled at em.

                          Woody

PS, I did reinforce the cut out in the cowl with a thin coat of 5 min epoxy, I just brushed it on. It may look like a Hellcat, but it's actually a cheap beer cooler in the shape of a Hellcat. Awesome little plane, if you master it, you wont leave home with out it for a while. W
