I see Sigplanes has a A-1 Skyraider by Seagull

Does anyone have one, or has seen it in person?

Needless to say, it has caught my attention.

Building it now. It appears to be a quick build. I don't like the fact that the servos are outside on the wings instead of tucked in under servo doors. But, after you put the ordinance that came with it on, it wont be noticeable. I am going to power mine with a Saito 1.25 four stroke. Probably over kill, but I am going to try to turn a 15 inch four blade some of the time for the scale look. I will try to get some pics/vids of the build up when I can get back to it. So far I just have the ailerons and flaps hinged in and the wing tip nav lights. I am adding scale lighting to it..

      Hey Lon and Ben,

I got one(the Bee version) and have a lot of mixed feelings about it. Three weeks ago I maiden it and everything was awesome until about the 3 minute mark when a lot of grinding is heard. Shut down motor and grinding stops. Restart to one third throttle and grinding noise again. Deploy retracts and make emergency dead stick landing. First observation is that motor is in a downward angle and the fake plastic radial is chewed up. Biopsy at home after removing cowl reveals that the adhesive on the rear mounting plate of the electric motor box to its side wall plates that was done by the factory had failed. My glue job of the adjustable front plate was rock solid(see attached pic). Called SIG Mfg, sent pic of issue, 7 days later a new motor box and plastic fake radial were received at no cost. Re-maiden yesterday, doing great for the first 5 minutes, several low flybys 10 feet off the deck, flies like a beast with the FMS 1700 Corsair power plant which had the other club members very impressed. Then everything got stupid, ailerons twitched hard right and then left with my control intervention being intermittent. Managed to get gear deployed and plane coming back for the runway when the same routine occurs again and then for a third and last time about 20 feet in the air. Plane ended up on its belly with gear collapsed which fractured the leading edge spar on the port wing when the missile mount was ripped from wing. The starboard wing gear mount plate was destroyed along with it's mounting blocks. So I have to get in touch with SIG today to see if replacement wings are avail so I can get this back into the air this season and repair the damaged ones over the winter. I am suspecting that the radio glitch issue was caused by the satellite Rx of the AR8000 was the culprit because I had found it came loose from its dual side sticky tape and was laying on the rudder servo. While I was looking on the net last evening to see if replacement parts were readily avail, here is something that I ran across which has really sparked my interest. It looks like a company named HSD has gotten the molds to the ol' Starmax(BlitzRCWorks) 1600 Skyraider and it is AVAIL NOW via distribution by Dragon Hobby USA who is located in Las Vegas.

The retracts are full metal with operating oleos, 6S 5020/300kV power and is the same size as the Seagull and is PNP for about $50 more.
I think this may just have to become part of the fleet and keep company with the FMS warbirds. Balsa/ply is an ok material and is old school but it is not as resilient as I have found the foamies to be which is why I have been such a huge foamie convertee and 3/4 of my fleet is foam.

        Best Regards,
I am impressed with your electric set up. That would be a great scale look. I would have to install a sound system if I went that route. I like foam as well. My problem with the large foam planes is the hangar rash. The 1700mm fms planes look great. But you can't pick them up without causing a indention. If they scrape against anything it will leave a mark. I know there is a ton of sheeting methods and finishing methods out there.  But I can build a arf and draw panel lines in half the time it would take to sheet or refinish a foamy. That's my biggest petpeeve with the 1700mm foam planes. I have three 1700mm planes now. Yeah they fly ok, at ten feet they look good. But they don't have that nitro or gas performance and the hangar rash to me just leaps out. My friend said he found a clear coating that actually hardens and its not an epoxy. I think he called it modge podge?
